Chapter Drei in the series is to be known as “Lair of the Leviathan.” As is usual, the accompanying images with the official release don’t appear to reveal any substantial plot details for this forthcoming episode....

Ten obnoxiously cheap ways of extending a game’s length

As games have become more and more expensive, a focus on longevity has naturally become increasingly important. When we spend $60 on a videogame, we expect to get our money’s worth, and that means we don’t want a game that’s finished in less than three hours. While we are quite right to demand a certain amount of gameplay to justify the money spent, it unfortunately means that developers have had to come up with creative time-wasting schemes that don’t give us the value we want, but merely create theillusionof value....

The 10 best downloads for your new PSPgo

…or your old PSPregular. Sony launched their more portable, UMD-less PSP yesterday, and along with it came a ton of new offerings for the system on Sony’s PlayStation Store. While we’re not complaining about the wealth of new and re-birthed-as-download titles available, sorting through them all is a daunting task. No worries: We’ve done all the foot work (finger work?) for you. We poked through the old and the new, the regurgitated and the repriced, and we found what we think are the ten best offerings on the store....

The Darkness: The Creeping Dark brings the pain

Trying to set itself aside from being just another first-person shooter, one of the unique aspects of 2K’sThe Darknessare what is called The Creeping Dark. Here’s a good description of this little bastard:Creeping Dark, the snake-like appendage that slides along the ground, up the walls and through windows in The Darkness, can be used to attack Uncle Paulie’s hitmen and devour their hearts, open locked doors, and much more.Funny enough, just as 2K sent this to our inbox this morning, I actually have an appointment with them today to get some quality hands-on time with this upcoming title....

The Memory Card .77: Prince Froggy

“The Memory Card” is a seasonal feature that dissects and honors some of the most artistic, innovative, and memorable videogame moments of all time. What makes a good boss battle? When you break it down, it’s not whether the boss is super challenging, has incredible graphics, or fills the entire screen. Sure, all of these aspects are very important, and, if used correctly, help make a boss battle successful and satisfying....

The story behind Gemini Wars developer Camel 101

We’ve already spokeat lengthabout indie studio Camel 101’s upcoming gameGemini Wars. Now, here’s a chance to learn how Camel 101 came to be a studio, and learn more about the development ofGemini Wars. When I spoke with Ricardo Cesteiro, he briefly mentioned that the game grew from something with simple mechanics and rules into something more complex, even incorporating community feedback into game features. Naturally there had to be more to it than that, and he was happy to tell me Camel 101’s story....

The Videogame Show What I’ve Done: Left 4 Dead

This is probably my favorite episode. It was certainly the most fun to put together, and I am very pleased with how it turned out. If you’ve been liking the series, then you’ll probably really enjoy it. If you’ve not been liking it, then why on Earth are you still watching? Seriously, saying “this was the worst one and the others weren’t funny either,” just makes you look like a moron for watching every one....

The World at War PC beta is coming soon, here’s how to get in

Not surprisingly, the PC beta forCall of Duty: World at Waris going to beveryeasy to get into, so I better not hear any stories about how you bought a key for $80 on eBay like I’ve been hearing from people in the Xbox 360 beta. Sadly, I’m not joking. Firstly, if you pre-order the WWII shooter at GameStop, you are guaranteed a code. But because pre-ordering is for suckers, you can also nab a key bysigning up here, even after the beta has commenced....

There are no ‘immediate plans’ for Battlefield 1943 DLC

Why hasn’t EA DICE released DLC forBattlefield 1943? In a conversation withJoystiqat PAX ’09, game producer Gordon Van Dyke pegged the studios’ focus onBattlefield 3andBattlefield: Bad Company 2as the culprits. Van Dyke made it said the studio is considering the quality of those two titles instead ofBF1943DLC quantity. “We don’t have any immediate plans right now, but it’s not ruled out,” said Van Dyke. “There’s a lot of pressure on the team forBattlefield 3andBattlefield: Bad Company 2… we don’t want to stretch things too thin and make something that’s not up to quality....

These Atari-themed glasses are worth a look

It’s been a while since we’ve delved into this peculiar segment of gamer culture: memorabilia, trinkets, and other goofy objects that usually shouldn’t have anything to do with videogames. These retro Atari glasses from ThinkGeek are a tremendous way to come back, if I do say so myself. The set of four —Asteroids,Centipede,Tempest, andMissile Command— is cool, no doubt about it. The only issue is that of price, which is $29....

Wada’s FF XIII statements confuses his own developers

A few weeks ago,we told you about howSquare Enix president Yoichi Wada claimed thatFinal Fantasy XIIImay be the “last of this type of game.” We weren’t entirely sure what we meant by that, and it seems that we’re not the only ones. Even high ranking Square Enix developers, like producer Yoshinori Kitase, and director Motomu Toriyama, are befuddled. “We don’t know exactly what he meant by that,” answers the pair on the official PlayStation Blog....
