It has been hailed as a modern cult classic and like those that came before it, many lamented its lack of sales and poor marketing. Hope for a newPsychonautsmay have seemed dim, but it’s been served a little more ignition today, thanks to developer Double Fine and itsrecently postedteaser image (above). Right now, nobody exactly knows what’s “coming soon,” but it could be anything from a Wii port to an entirely new game....

Hudson Entertainment has dated its gloomy Wii platformer,Lost in Shadow, for a January 4 release. To mark this momentous occasion of putting a date on a game release, Hudson has decided to pull the wrapping off one of the game’s features, “Materialization.” While most of the game will be played as a young boy as a shadow, sometimes he’ll have to become a “creature of light.” He’ll receive multiple swords, like the “Watchman’s Sword,” which can cleave reality, creating a door between the light and the shadow....

For this entry in Retrogazing, I spoke withKarakasa Games’ James Curry about memorable PC games that influenced him. As it turns out, Curry knows a thing or two about weird-ass, ludicrously ambitious adventure games made by a small one-to-three person team. Along with experimenting with game design on the ZX Spectrum, he has spent many, many hours playing PC adventure titles that remain relatively unknown. Sony has been the punching bag of the games industry for a while now, but it may very well be Rockstar of all companies serving the biggest bitchslap yet. Rockstar spokesman Hosi Simon has essentially said that the fullGrand Theft Auto IVexperience will require an Xbox 360. He also stated that the games run identical on both systems, being unable to think of any benefits owning the PS3 version will have over purchasing a 360 version....

It’s been a bumpy road forBrutal Legend, what with all the legal mumbo jumbo surrounding the game. It started asActivision suingDouble Fine for allegedly “improperly” transferring the rights from Activision to Electronic Arts. Then, last month,Double Fine fileda countersuit that stated Activision wanted “to kill [Brutal Legend] completely so thatGuitar Herowould not have to face the competition.” Needless to say, the whole situation spiraled out of control and was a real mess for all parties involved....

Spotted byJoystiq, the survey suggests a “Netflix Instant Streaming” disc would be required to be in the console in order to stream the content; the disc would be free. Previous questionnaires have noted this disc as well, which would hint that this disc option (versus a new channel update, for instance) seems likely if Netflix does come to the Wii in some capacity. Joystiq also notes that when the disc was mentioned in the past, it was being offered for $9....

Guild Wars 2has been more or less concealed in a shroud of mystery since its initial announcement last year, but most GW players have simply enjoyed theEye of the Northexpansion and kind of waited patiently for more word on the elusive sequel. However, Destructoid has just recieved word from an internal source that theGuild Warsteam will be proudly unveiling the character art forGuild Wars 2later this week. Supposedly the unveil will take place in-game, but the team was tight lipped about any further information....

LittleBigPlanetreally has had it bad since it launched. The highly promising PS3 title was delayed a week due toMuslim-themed controversy, the launch wasriddled with glitchesand server issues, the sales have beenless than fantasticand, to top it all off, people are now having their datamysteriously delete itself. The release ofThe Sims 3draws near, and here you have the commercial that will air on broadcast television leading up to the game’s out-of-control retail success. To me, it’s kind of like what I’d imagine the end of the world to look like. In it, hundreds of Sims descend upon a city from a tall, grassy hill. It’s a stampede as a they race towards the town, pushing each other out of the way, and eerily morphing between looks as if possessed by demons....

While the rest of the world waits patiently for the latest portable entry in theMetal Gearfranchise, the Japanese are already enjoying their second pack of downloadable content for the title. Released today, the pack includes some new music, a weapon voice and some other stuff that’s totally above my head. There’s also two skins, the one above and a shirtless version for when Snake is feelingextra fierce. Look, you don’t f–k with a man wearing pink and an eyepatch....
