TGS 2007: Bandai Namco booth tour

Within the massive frame of Bandai Namco’s 2007 Tokyo Game Show booth awaited many games and photo opportunities. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a company representative stationed at every corner to foil any attempts at photography. I pressed on and used stealth camera techniques to bring you this look at their booth. As busy as the booth was, there was an air of disappointment from the lack ofSoul Calibur 4kiosks. It seemed like the largest crowds would gather in front of the booth when video of this title was shown, but then they would quickly move on after it ended....

The longest post ever: My trip to San Diego Comic-Con

[Editor’s note: This year’s San Diego Comic-Con was full of the usual surprises — celebrity appearances, videogame announcements, sweet comics (of course), and the obligatory crew of chicks in costumes. Since Niero looks fat in his Lara Croft costume, and my Emma Frost outfit shrunk in the wash, we didn’t make it to “the con” this year. Destructoid community memberVirtualgirl(Meagan VanBurkleo), on the other hand, had a great time. She’s pretty excited about it, and she has a lot to say about her experience....

Therapists join World of Warcraft in the name of science

MMO addiction is a hot topic these days, and there are plenty of “experts” out there who want to “help.” British Psychiatrist Dr. Richard Graham is among these brave few heroes, and he’s so concerned about the wellbeing of so-called game addicts that he wants to provide therapywithin the game itself. “We will be launching this project by the end of the year. I think it’s already clear that psychiatrists will have to stay within the parameters of the game,” explains Dr....

There’s some Contra in my Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Silent Hill: Shattered Memorieshas a lot of odd things in it. Over the last few hours I’ve spotted a working model train, a gumball machine, learned about the “choking game,” and even picked up a phone number for a chick with zero decency. I’ve been chased by skinless creepies and even rolled around in a hospital. I should have seen the classic Konami arcade machines coming. In the Theatre section of the game (located in the Mall in my version), there are three coin-op machines, all Konami, used as dark room filler: the timelessContra,Rush N’ Attack, andGradius....

THQ: Strong videogame narrative is important

We’ve been chatting with THQ’s David Langeliers about this Spring’s promising new shooter,Metro 2033. One of the game’s main draws is its story — based on a novel of the same name. We asked how important the story was toMetro 2033as a videogame, and how crucial story has become to games in general. “The story isveryimportant to the game, and balancing the narrative and gameplay was one of the hardest (if not the hardest) problem that we faced during development,” offers David....

Tonight’s Podtoid is a Super Mario Bros. movie commentary

It will also be my and Aaron’s last Podtoid as Host and Other Guy, respectively. I don’t know if we’ll have enough time for listener questions at the end, but I thought I’d throw this up on the off chance that someone asks a spectacularly insightful question that serves as a really great swan song to my and Aaron’s time on Podtoid. Then I remembered that it’s Podtoid, and “spectacularly insightful” is a lot to ask for....
