Square-Enix spreads its wings: will publish 007 for the Japanese market

It was only a few weeks ago that we found out that Square-Enix would bedistributing Ubisoft titles for Japan, and now it seems that they are continuing to make good on their promise to introduce more American titles to Japanese audiences by striking up a deal with Activision to publish the most recent 007 title,Quantum of Solace, in Japan. This is a great thing to help expose Japanese audiences to a wider range of games, but I can’t help but to selfishly wish there was a reverse version of this strategy where Square worked hard to distribute all the incredible Japanese-only games I drool over in the US....

Stuff this Resistance 3 multi trailer in your spice hole

Following theResistance 3multiplayer detailswe posted earlier, Sony has squirted a hot new trailer onto the ‘net for our sordid amusement. It’s pretty beefy at over five minutes, so make sure you’ve got some spare time. The footage looks a little sterile, but I am assuming that’s because the match seems to be two-on-two. What I really adore, however, is the fact that you get points for way more than simply killing enemies....

Supreme Commander to command things in a supreme manner on Xbox 360 in early ’08

The days of PC controlling the realm of real-time strategy titles have come to an end! Gas Powered Games’ PC real-time strategy titleSupreme Commanderis coming to the Xbox 360 in “early 2008.” Hellbent Games and Aspyr Media will be working on the console port of the title, which will feature exclusive new units, updated maps, and new multiplayer modes. Of course, the game will also feature full Xbox Live support, as well as the pre-requisite “revised, console-specific control interface and HUD,” whatever that might mean....

Team Rocket is real and wants to corrupt your Pokemans

This isquite a demented storyto start your week. The Nintendo World Store launch party forPokémon Platinumin New York was the source of drama when a fake “mystery gift” was uncovered as an evil hoax by none other than … Team Rocket — or at least a sad geek dressedupas a Team Rocket member. Some flyers promoting the launch event had been photoshopped with the promise of a “mystery gift” by some nefarious villains, who then went around the Nintendo World Store with plans to distribute a Level 50 Shiny Gengar....

TGS: Hands-on with Onechanbara SPECIAL!

The first game that I played at TGS wasOnechanbara SPECIAL!. We here at Destructoid have along historywith theOnechanbaraseries. That’s probably why I was drawn to it. I found this familiar, bikini-clad, zombie murdering fiasco to be quite comforting as I began to navigate the foreign landscape of Japan. Also, there was no line! I wonder why… The game seems to be taking it’s cues from the Wii build of the game, and includes all four of the playable characters from that title… on its billboard....

TGS: Nathan Spencer has some new moves

Well, new to him at any rate. Capcom has released two gameplay trailers for Tokyo Game Show which have a focus on moves that Spencer can perform with his bionic arm in the upcomingBionic Commando ReArmed 2. A couple of them, such as a circular whip motion and ground pound, will probably be familiar to those who played the 3DBionic Commandofrom last year. A really useful move is shown quite a bit in the second video below....

TGS: The new Edgeworth trailer makes me hard

So, to be honest — when I heard there was a newEdgeworthgame, I was kind of annoyed. I liked the firstEdgeworth, but I’ve been waiting for the nextApollo Justicegame forever. This trailer has changed my mind. In addition to having a fantastic soundtrack, it also looks like we’re getting some more information on Shelly de Killer. Even though he was in the lamest (relatively speaking) of thePhoenix Wrightgames, I find him one of the most interesting villains of the series....

The master of Mortal Kombat, Shang Tsung

All the way back to the firstMortal Kombat, Shang Tsung has been my homeboy. Oh, I would never play as him in a game. His move sets were too complicated, too strategic for my desperate flailing and mashing approach in playing the arcade games. But he was thecoolestcharacter in the universe because he consumed souls and stole the powers of other combatants in addition to his own magical gifts. A jack of all trades, to be certain, and that appealed greatly to me....

The world waits on iPad ’cause we bought them all

Look around. You’ll find no shortage of people that hate on the iPad. You’ll also find no shortage of people that have and love the iPad. The love side was enough to have Apple’s tablet computer sell out everywhere. And by everywhere, that meanseverywhere. It’s so bad that the rest of the world will see a delay on the release of the device. The international release has been delayed from this month, or “late April,” to the end of May....

Topatoi footage hovers our way

Your first considerable look at Boolat Games’Topatoiis available below the fold (that is, if you’re not European). Name sounds weird, right? Here’s a simple reason why: the game is bananas. In the game, you steer a multi-dimensional hovercraft around verb-filled environments: beams break, platforms rise and lower, enemies charge, and you hover. It’s a platformer at its core and judging from the footage, appears to have an extensive item collection component....
