Not too long ago Sony announced that they were discontinuing their extended batteries for the PSP. Yesterday,GameProreported that the reason the discontinuation occurred was perhaps the result of customer satisfaction with the battery included with the device. The battery life has always been a contentious subject with those who actively use their PSP, so why the spin? I personally hate how little I can get out of my PSP. I typically use the portable device while I am plodding along on the elliptical machine between episodes ofone of our three podcasts....

WithGuitar Hero: Metallicanot even on shelves, rumors have already popped up that Activision are prepping another band-specific title, this time featuring hard rock band, Van Halen. We had heard the info from a source a few months back evenbeforethe public rumor infoabout a Van Halen-specific game came into the spotlight. Now, a third source seems to confirm the title existence — videogame retailer Game Crazy is now listing a title calledGuitar Hero Van Halenwith an “8/31/09” release....

We waited very impatiently forMuramasa: The Demon Bladeto come out on Wii this month. The slashing action game has been enchanting us with trailers for months. And here it is. Rockstar brings us the greatest ‘why didn’t I think of that’ announcement yet:Table Tennisis coming to the Nintendo Wii. It appears that, with the launch of PlayStation Plus, Sony may be taking a sh*t-stained leaf out of Microsoft’s playbook. According to Hulu’s website, the console-bound version of the TV streaming service will require a PS Plus subscription. What this means, obviously, is that Hulu on the PS3 will cost you $49.99 per year as well as the required $9.99 a month. Microsoft has already confirmed that Hulu Plus will need an Xbox Live Gold subscription, but we expect that kind of “take features away rather than add cool features” mentality from Microsoft, not so much from Sony....

While the lack of physical media for Sony’s PSPgo may be signaling the death-knell for the Universal Media Disc, it may be opening up new doors for developers. Sources close to game development have told Destructoid that Sony is actively pushing developers to design smaller, “non-retail” games and applications for the PSP. These “non-retail” games and apps would come in priced considerably lower than the traditional retail UMDs and full games made available for download on the PlayStation Network....

Develop-Onlineis reporting that up to 20 Rebellion employee’s have been let go from the Oxford studio. Rebellion’s Derby location is reportedly no more as well. It’s been known that the Derby studio has been facing some troubles since the beginning of the year, but a source close to Develop has stated that the studio is all but closed. Rebellion recently put outAliens Vs Predatorwhich has done pretty well, especially over in the UK....

Monolith isn’t done withF.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. Earlier today the developer announced a second map pack for the game. Dubbed “Armored Front,” the pack will consist of two maps (Conductor, Decoy) and four “unique” character heads. The downloadable content is slated to hit Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Network May 12 for (an odd) 540 Microsoft Space Banana Dollars and $6.99 respectively. If you’ve been counting — and c’mon, who isn’t — this is the second map pack....

It’sbeen a whilesince we dropped in onJekklyn Heights, the dark fairytale-esque multiplayer combat game from Vex studios. Curious, I decided to check out their site and see what’s going on. The short answer is … not much! That said, a new character has been revealed, The Inventor. along with a fresh screenshot. It’s not much, but it’ll do!
