Today, Newsweek’s videogame blogLevel Updrops the exclusive first information onRubik’s World, an upcoming Wii and Nintendo DS title based on Ernő Rubik’s classic puzzles. Set to hit Nintendo’s consoles this fall,Rubik’s Worldis being billed as an “otherworldly game” that will show players what the inside of a Rubik’s Cube looks like. Set up as a collection of puzzle games, the game will tests players by having them construct 3D objects, navigating through mazes and most interestingly, creating their own soundtracks....

The best thing about there being a new Sonic game is that Sonic fans are so obsessive, you’re never short of an overly-researched rumor or two. The latest slice of gossip is thatSonic the Hedgehog 4may be coming to retail once all the episodes have been released, similar to howGrand Theft Auto IV: Episodes From Liberty Citywas handled. The rumor comes by way of the officialSonic 4site. The Sonic fanbase has been turning that place upside-down, frisking the thing until it bleeds in their search for more information....

Sony’s handheld PlayStation Vita is impressive, powerful gaming technology, there’s little doubt about that. But rumors had suggested that the console’s specs, particularly in the RAM department, had been gimped to meet a low price point. Fortunately, those rumors were wrong. Sony has confirmed (via1UP) that the handheld will ship with 512MB of RAM, alongside 128MB of dedicated VRAM. What that means is the system hasn’t been compromised to meet the shockingly low $249....

It’s been some time since Torpex Games announced thatSchizoid(800 Microsoft Points) would be heading to Xbox LIVE Arcade as the first XNA Game Studio-built game to be up for purchase through the service, but it’s finally become a reality. The focus ofSchizoidis primarily that of co-op play. You and a friend will be able to take on wave after wave of enemies online and off. If you’d rather go the solo route, however, you have the option of playing with an AI-controlled partner or you can even control both ships by playing the “Uberschizoid” mode....

Sega has plans to promote the upcoming 15th anniversary of their mech gameVirtual On. One of the biggest is a promotion for the Xbox 360 version ofVirtual On Force, which is due for release on December 22nd in Japan. They’re going big. Life-sized big. But it’s not as grand as what was done withGundam recently in Japan. Instead of a life-sized statue, we’re getting a life-sized…poster. The rather large Sega’s GiGO building in the Akihabara district of Tokyo will be plastered with a big poster ofVirtual On‘s Temjin 747A Virtualoid mech, saysAndria Sang....

You can forget about yourBulletstorm, yourKillzone, and even yourDuke Nukem. Everybody knows thatSerious Sam 3is going to be the pinnacle of FPS gaming this year! Well … it’ll probably be cheaper, in any case. Serious Sam 3: BFE(nobody knows whatBFEstands for) has been officially announced by Croteam, and it’s due to launch this Summer. The game is set in Egypt and will be a prequel to the original title, as Sam fights Mental’s invading forces in the final battle for Earth....

Hudson Soft seems to know what’s up — if a snowboarding game isn’t going to be a newSSX, at least let players use weapons. That seems to be the deal with the just announced WiiWare title,Snowboard Riot. The game will allow players to use rockets and bombs, which — if I recall correctly — was not the reason my ass and legs were killing me the morning after I went snowboarding that one time....

For those of you who didn’t know (like me) DC’sFablesis about characters like Snow White, Goldilocks and all those characters from fables living in our real world. These storybook characters live in a magically camouflaged New York City neighborhood called Fabletown after being exiled from the land of fairy tales. Dan Connors, CEO of Telltale Games, feels thatFables“brings everything [they] look for in a property to bring to episodic. Yes, the halfhearted ramblings of a ridiculously tired Aaron Linde have now become fact, all thanks to Dtoid memberrandombullseye.BonerQuest, originally conceived by Aaron Linde as the ultimate mesh of porn game and mainstream RPG (and maybe as some sort of ironic self-parody, but probably not), has finally been turned into an actual, playable game. The PSP was supposed to be this portable wonder machine, packed with music and video features that had nothing to do with gaming. Sony learned a lesson from that flub, according to PlayStation Chief Jack Tretton to Forbes in an interview. Their new portable, the PS Vita, will come out of the gate with the intent of hooking core gamers. When asked about the Vita’s $250 price point, Tretton said that they “want to go after the core gamer” at first, and then go after the casual later....

Our own Wii specialist Jonathan Holmes loved the first entry in theBoom Bloxseries, and rightfully so — it was definitely one of the best games on the Wii at the time of its release. As you can imagine, we’re quite interested to get our hands onBash Party, and between these adorable screens and the video after the jump where Steven Spielberg chats about the game, I’m expecting a lot from this one....

A recently released study by Learning and Teaching Scotland suggests that children who useBrain Agehave better performance in math classes. In addition, kids who use the games were found to have improved concentration and behavior. The study was performed with over six hundred students over a nine week period. Each day, children were given a math test, followed by twenty minutes with the brain training game at the start of their lessons....
