You heard me, people. The much awaitedSuper Smash Bros. Brawlseems to be slated for release in May 2007 in the United States. This was mentioned in a chat session on IGN by Matt Casamassina. Does Matt really know when the game is scheduled for release, or was he just speculating? Check out this tidbit from a transcript of the chat: fantastikpro: so Bozon when do you think we will get smash bros?...

Take cover: Fallout 3 gets October 28 release date

Last year when I went to Bethesda to get anearly glimpse ofFallout 3, I doubted their “Fall 2008” release date. Not that the game didn’t look great — hell, it looked close to finished — but history has shown some of the most anticipated games not hitting their targets. Well Bethesda was right on: they’ve officially announced thatFallout 3will be coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on October 28....

Tech demo from tri-Ace looks like a Star Ocean game

The above video comes from thenew research and development siteofStar Oceandeveloper tri-Ace. The clip is called “tri-Ace Technical Demo Trailer 2011,” but it looks like a good opening to aStar Oceangame to me. It even features a score fromStar Oceanseries composer, Motoi Sakuraba. This is a video showing ‘Physically Based Rendering version 0.1,’ and they say it is not related to their developing titles at all. Damn. The important thing is that this demo is running in real time on Xbox 360 and PS3 hardware in 720p....

Terminator Salvation for PC recalled

Based on the reviews that have come out so far it doesn’t sound like you’ll be missing out on much, but word came in today that the PC version of theTerminator Salvationgame is being recalled (the console versions are fine). Apparently, a large number of the CDs suffered from a ‘manufacturing defect’, causing any attempt to install the game to fail with an “Error Code: -5006 : 0x80070002” message. If you REALLY want to playTerminator Salvationthough, don’t worry....

The Dark Meadow gets spooky trailer, spooky screens

Here’s a slick little teaser trailer for Phosphor’sThe Dark Meadow, an iOS title I’m pretty excited about. The video is really nicely done, and seems to indicate that this will most certainly be a more involving type of mobile game. We’ve also got some concept art in the gallery, and there’san official sitefor you to start gawping at. Good times!

The second American revolution is Homefront

That’s what this new trailer from THQ claims. Works for me. I really hopeHomefrontwinds up delivering. There is something that appeals to me deeply about a game set in an occupied United States, as I don’t think it has been done before. My fear is that it will wind up being some big, overblown show of patriotism. Unity and resistance, defending one’s homeland, these things are fine. But after many years where the global perception of the US is one of jingoism, I don’t know if I could stomach such pride here....

The top ten toys in videogames

As much as I love all the comics, movies, videogames, and general chaos that accompany Comic-Con every year, I mainly make the pleasant Los Angeles to San Diego trip each summer for one thing and one thing only: the toys. Oh, those lovely, lovely toys. Fighting through the enormous crowds, I do whatever it takes to fill my extra empty suitcase with as many fun toys as possible. With Comic-Con starting bright and early tomorrow morning, I thought it appropriate to celebrate the larger than life expo by putting together a list of the ten best toys featured in videogames....

This Call of Duty 4-inspired animated short is beautiful

It’s easy to forget how enjoyable and tight an experienceCall of Duty 4‘s single-player campaign was, but then neat stuff like this knocks some sense back into me so I don’t really mind. Viewable after the break is part one of an animated series based onModern Warfare. It’s good … too good. Wait, no, it’s just good. The video, which was graciously spotted byMTV Multiplayer, takes all of its music, sound effects, and voice over work directly from the ridiculously popular Infinity Ward game and then creates a short story out of them using neat-looking illustrations....

THQ Gamer’s Day: Saints Row 2 impressions

It’s really just a bizarre twist of fate that I happened to have a chance to play both Rockstar’sGrand Theft Auto IVand Volition’sSaint’s Row 2during the same week. Volition’s near-launch Xbox 360 open-world driving/shooting/crime-spree simulator was a solid title, but garnered more than a few comparisons to Rockstar’s now classic series. Some went as far as to call it a “goodGrand Theft Autoripoff,” and for good reason — it kind of was....

Track and Field on XBLA this Wednesday

Ask anybody that’s in this photo, and they’ll tell you that very few things in life are consistant: death, taxes, that burning sensation when you pee, and XBLA releases every Wednesday. This week, the retro arcade classicTrack and Fieldwill be digitally distributed straight into your cerebellum via Xbox Live Arcade for a measly 400 points.
