From Rapture to Rapeture: Take-Two dreams up BioShock MMO and film

The idea of aBioShocksequel polarizes the gaming community, with some believing the game was perfect as it was and shouldn’t be mined too deeply, while others welcome another chance to return to Rapture. I wonder then, how split opinon would be if the franchise was thoroughly exhausted with, say,a film or an MMOon top of sequels. These ideas have been put forth by Take-Two as possible directions theBioShockfranchise could be taken during a slide presentation detailing how much the company is worth in the wake of the tussle between Take-Two and Electronic Arts....

Sterling:I’ve been replayingDead Spaceon PC. It’s easier on the computer than it was on the 360 thanks to being able to better pinpoint my attacks, but it’s somehow a lot scarier, probably due to the intimacy you get with a PC....

GDC 10: Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction, iPhone’d

I got to take an early peek at Gameloft’sTom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Convictionon the iPhone here at GDC. It’s still early, but I was able to see several locales and game play elements, and I feel like it’s already shaping up to be worthy of the name, and a good portable companion to the full-blown console title. Speaking of the console version, the cutscenes, music and voice work were pulled from it and plugged right into the iPhone game....

Google Earth plus PS3 plus zombie outbreak equals The Last Guy and ‘do want’

Here’s something that’s relevant to my own interests: Sony’s upcoming zombie outbreak PlayStation Network title,The Last Guy. When a mysterious purple ray hits the Earth, turning normal citizens into monsters and blood-thirsty zombies, the player becomes mankind’s last remaining hope and must escort survivors to designated safety zones. But here’s where it gets really interesting: the game features real-world locales (Los Angeles, Tokyo, and London), and utilizes high-resolution sattelite imagery from Google Earth to render the cities....

Here’s an extended Medal of Honor trailer

If you watchedGameTrailers TVon Friday night, then you’ve already seen this extended cut of theMedal of Honortrailerthat debuted at the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards. But even if that’s true, I’d say that the new two-minute trailer is worth checking out again anyway. It focuses on the game’s Tier 1 operators, a special unit of the military that works with scalpel-like precision in crucial situations that decide the war. Aside from Tier 1, we haven’t yet seen a whole lot of new stuff thatMedal of Honoris bringing to the table, but developer EA Los Angeles has acknowledged that, and in a refreshing bit of honesty, they’ve said they’recomfortable with it, too....

How loving the PSP is driving me to hurt it

They say often that we hurt the things we love most, and as I patiently wait for a supremely cheap Memory Card Duo to arrive, I find that a most apt phrase. I love the PSP. As a piece of technology, as a gaming device, I think the PlayStation Portable is wonderful. I love the way it looks, I love the way it feels, and I love the way it makes a little “clang” noise when I open the disc tray....

Hudson closes its doors, all planned projects canceled

Here’s the worst piece of news I’ve heard in a while. According to Morgan Haro, the CEO of Hudson Entertainment, the Western branch of Hudson Soft, will be closing down at the end February when Konami acquires the company. All projects being headed by Hudson Entertainment are now canceled. We don’t know exactly what that means, as Hudson is yet to release a list of which games were headed by Hudson Soft, as opposed to Hudson Entertainment....
