E3 10: Jimpressions of Splatterhouse

Splatterhousehas had a troubled development, to say the least. Its been several years in development, even switching studios in unpleasant circumstances, but now the game has finally approached playable levels and is due for release later this year. Our own Dale North did afull preview of the game, so let’s kick back with some quick Jimpressions. I got to play a couple of levels, including a nostalgic sidescrolling section, and I have to say I enjoyed what I played....

Max Scoville spoke with Ulf Andersson, director of the cooperative criminal game,Payday: The Heist. In this interview, Ulf tells us a little bit about the thrill of performing a well-executed heist and what’s necessary to ensure it. I can’t get over how well-craftedPaydayis. The way that the police change up their strategies in reaction to your team’s actions puts new challenges around every corner. It’s the most challenging and fun cooperative experience I’ve had this year and I can’t wait for the title to drop....

With Infinity Ward droppingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2in stores next week, we’re winding down the marketing hype machine, presumably wrapping things up with this final “launch” trailer that premiered this evening on Spike TV and Comedy Central. As expected, there’s a lot going on here — guns firing, things exploding, dudes yelling at each other. Unexpected is the trailer’s soundtrack, Eminem’s “Till I Collapse.” Does it work? Ezio runs, jumps and kills fools to a track by Unkle

Say what you will about theAssassin’s Creedseries — we’ve certainly saidour share— but damn if it isn’t pretty. Watching a trailer like this is a lot like staring across the bar at an exquisitely beautiful woman. You want nothing more than to take her home but, in the back of your mind, you just know the experience is going to be disappointing in some way. The only difference being that, in the case ofAssassin’s Creed, at least you won’t suffer the shame of being the one responsible for the shortcoming....

Ridiculously,Fable IIIwill be the first time that actor Sir Ben Kingsley has voiced a videogame. For whatever reason, developer Lionhead Studios was the first to tap into the talents of the actor, who will voice Sabine, the leader of the mountain dwellers, in the upcoming action role-playing game. “This is my first experience voicing a video game,” he said, “so what drew me to it was the team, how committed they are, how well organized everything is and how beautiful the game is....

Famitsu reveals Trauma Center: New Blood

When I got my Wii in November, I picked up two games to complement mySportspack-in:Twilight Princess(which was damn-near required) andTrauma Center: Second Opinion. Sure, the DS version was hard as balls, but Goddamn, it was a hell of a good time, and the promise of swapping instruments using the nunchuk made it an easy buy. But it was a remake of a game that I had already played — same story, same missions, except for that taste of Wii-exclusive content....

Fat kids cry about Wii workout plan

Stereotypes be damned, many a gamer are a swarthy and plump bunch not accustomed to moving around unless it’s to get another can of Red Bull or a refill on the ‘ol Cheetos bowl. So, it should come as no shock that when people aren’t breaking valuables with the Wiimote they are also ailing from the physical exertion the console extolls on the body. Such is the case found in thisWall Street Journalpiece on the Wii and its casualties of the lazy:...

First-look screens of Moby Jones in SSX look cool

Terrible pun aside, you may now shift your attention to new screenshots of the recurring character Moby Jones. It’s really no surprise Moby is in the newSSX, as he’s been a staple of the spectacular series since his debut in the firstSSXway back in 2000. Even though EA is going for a darker and more realistic game with this reboot, it’s nice to see they are paying homage to the original games by bringing back fan-favorite characters....

GC 09: Eye of Judgment coming to PSP

One announcement that seems to have avoided major detection is one concerning camera-based PS3 card gameEye of Judgment. Using physical cards and the PlayStation Eye, it always been a neat game in theory, but never really seemed to catch on in spite of its potential marketing genius. Perhaps the PSP version will do better. Eye of Judgmentis indeed coming to the PlayStation Portable, using the handheld system’s own camera add-on to do the same kind of nonsense its bigger brother did....
