New Final Fantasy XII : Revenant Wings trailer

Damn, this game is going to be awesome. Square Enix has released a newFinal Fantasy XII: Revenant Wingstrailer that finally shows off some real gameplay for this DS title. I’m not the biggest fan of theFinal Fantasyseries, but this trailer is impressive. Just take a look at the number of characters battling all over the screen. The mix of retro style sprites and 3D backgrounds adds that nostalgic touch to the game as well....

Nintendo DS game Zombie BBQ is definitely called Zombie BBQ

I’ve never heard of Barcelona-based publisher Gammick, and I’m afraid to say I’m really not familiar with developerEnjoy Up. But somewhere, someone decided to draw a picture of a zombie-fied swine wielding a scythe and my attention has been caught. According to the description onGammick’s Web site, “Zombie BBQis a really fun shooter for Nintendo DS.” Really, what else do you need to know? The game is calledZombie BBQ, for Christ’s sake....

Not-Review: Metro 2033

I’m not going to reviewMetro 2033. I haven’t made it past the third chapter of the game, and I doubt I’ll ever make it any further. It’s not thatMetro 2033is irredeemably awful, or anything. It’s got some good points, which I’ll get into after the jump. But there was a moment when I was playing — a sudden, awful, awe-inspiring moment — when I realized I would no longer be able to tolerate the game any longer, and would be incapable of writing a proper review....

NY Comic Con: Videogames at New York Comic Con 2008

Along with our sister site, collectible toy culture blogTomopop, Destructoid decided to invade New York Comic Con this past weekend. Comics? Who needs ’em. (Answer: me.) But we heard through the grapevine that there would be some videogame-related stuff to see, so we crawled out of bed and made our way to the Jacob Javits Center to scope things out. So maybe John Woo didn’t announce aMetroidfilm (boo? yay?), but there was still plenty of stuff to see....

Off-Brand Games: Robopon

[Many video games build upon the concepts and mechanics of their forerunners. Off-Brand Games examines those that draw just a little too much… inspiration.] Pokémania has swept the nation once again with the recent release ofHeartGoldandSoulSilver. It’s impossible to step two feet out your front door without bumping into some four-foot snot with a Pokéwalker clipped to his pants. With all this exposure, it wasn’t long before I too became swept up by the tide....

Opening the book on Square Enix’s NIER

NIERis certainly a misunderstood beast. Between the transgendered support character Kainé who gains an extra set of tools through no fault of her own, the rather odd method of making two different versions of the game to appeal to different cultural groups, and a video in which Kainé orders a floating book to “start f**king helping us!”,NIERis well, different, especially for a Square Enix published game. Now,NIERcould just remain that, a polarizing (and polarized) product for fans of Square Enix titles....

Persona plushie Jiraiya looks like space Mickey with bling

Do you remember Yosuke Hanamura’s persona from the Atlus RPGPersona 4? The persona, Jiraiya, was a lanky, cape-wearing wind user with camoflauge-tipped bell bottoms. So, you know, a normal Persona design. The plushie version of Jiraiya, now featured on the Japanese Atlus “D” shop, looks nothing like its in-game form. Well, it kind of does, but probably closer resembles a space-age Mickey Mouse robot clone with a boomerang bling and stars for eyes....
