Sonic the Polish Pickle

Poland isn’t exactly famous for its videogame output, but it may very well have just put itself on the map with this brilliantly original character. In lieu of an actual name for the creature, I have christened him myself. His new name is Sonic the Polish Pickle, and you can find him on a jar of Ogórki today! I have no idea whether or not the makers of Galileo Ogórki pickles have secured rights to use this mutant Sonic on their jars or not, but I do know that this is one of the greatest videogame-themed pickle labels I have ever seen....

Splinter Cell, Red Steel 2 delay ‘a question of polish’

Don’t feel so bad about the delay ofSplinter Cell ConvictionandRed Steel 2; it’s for the best. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemont said in an investors conference call yesterday that it’s “a question of polish.” “The team was asking that they couldn’t be with the level of quality on all the maps and all the game for the end of the year,” he says, “so they had asked for more time to be able to come with a better product, for both games....

Square’s Jump Festa yields Star Ocean 4 trailer

Square’s recentJump Festa eventpresented the public with many new goodies to ogle, the newStar Ocean 4trailer being one of them. The trailer follows the two usual credos of Square previews: it’s immaculately gorgeous and shows no gameplay whatsoever. I’ve got no reason to be snide, so I won’t be, but I won’t really perk up my ears for this title again until gameplay is shown. If you want to keep a closer eye on the progress of this upcoming RPG, you can always keep an eye on the JapaneseStar Oceanportal siteEternal Sphere....

Steam confirmed for Mac, Valve games coming in April

You probably knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make this confirmation any less exciting. Valve went all out with an information dump today, saying more than just “Steam and Source are coming to Mac.” For starters, there’s this new feature called Steam Play. Essentially, it’s the thing that lets you purchase games for PC and play them on your Mac (or vice versa) at no additional cost. To make matters crazier, Steam Play — when the developer opts to include it — allows you to switch between Mac and PC versions of the same game without losing any progress; you can pick up exactly where you left off....

Suda speaks part 1: No More Heroes 2 retrospective

Please forgive my extreme excitement and nervousness in this interview series. Suda51 is one of my all-time favorite game developers. First off, there were some things I just had to ask aboutNo More Heroes 2. There is some stuff here that Suda has never talked about before, so die hard fans had better tune in....

Super Mario Bros. with current gen sound effects is gross

I’m one of those weirdos that never really liked realism in videogames. Well, outside of racing games, that is. Videogames are fantasy, and are supposed to be an escape. They’re not virtual reality. But this is a rant for a different time. A friend of mine put current day realistic sound effects to a game we all know and love ,Super Mario Bros., the classic NES pack-in. This was part of Jake Kaufman’s demo reel, and it helped him get hired at Volition....
