PSP-4000 ad was a ‘mistake’

License manager Angela Jones said very little else, simply stating that she did not know what had happened or why the ad says PSP-4000. She neither confirmed nor denied further rumors of Sony working on a new PSP SKU, so the rumors are still very much in the up in the air. Sony itself, naturally, wouldn’t confirm anything when we asked the platform holder prior to the weekend. Whether this ad was a mistake or not though, I would be very surprised if we don’t see any official mention of a PSP-4000 in 2010....

Rev Rant: empowerment

Every Thursdayish, Anthony Burch discusses some aspect of the gaming industry or game design in his weekly Rev Rant. I’m not actually onscreen for this one (for the best, probably, as my beard would have taken up half the frame anyway), but it’s basically about how 99% of action-centric games are about empowering the player in every way possible, when often the opposite can lead to more interesting, varied gameplay....

Revamped Resident Evil 5 Web site is insane, tells us ‘it came from Kijuju’

Earlier today, Destructoid received a strange email from Capcom that contained the phrase “it came from Kijuju” 100+ times and a link to a cool newinteractive Web siteforResident Evil 5. Trust us, it’ll make more sense once you click the link. If you’ve been paying attention to the latestRE5happenings, you know that Kijuju is the city in which the game takes place. Once you head on over to the site, navigate your candle towards the left and click the giant “1....

Review: Darkest Fear (iPhone)

With the constant flood of casual iPhone titles out there these days, it’s easy to find yourself never interested in another overly bright and cheerful puzzle game or witty tower defense title again. I find myself flipping through the App store, wondering why I’m not seeing stuff that’s a bit more innovative and weird — more RPGs, horror games, adventures, etc. And then I notice thatRoviohas a little game calledDarkest Fearfor the iPhone....

Rumor: Leaked Sonic 4 images show old school Robotnik

According to a number of reports, what you are looking at are some screenshots ofSonic 4leaked from PartnerNET and yes, that IS Dr. Robotnik in a very old school boss battle you’re seeing. The new images, which we are waiting for Sega to verify, show off scenes from theleaked game footagewe saw a while back. I don’t care what anybody else thinks, this stuff looks damn hot. The Sonic fanbase, well known for their Internet sleuthing, have certainly found these hard to prove fake, so but until we get verification, we can only run this as a rumor....

Rumortoid: Rare announcing two new games at E3, speculation commences

We still have GDC to get through, but that’s not stopping the blogocube from looking toward E3 with speculative eyes. Thenewest rumorconcerns Rare, and is hinting that two new games from the British studio will be announced at the show. Right now, the rumors point at a newPerfect Darkand the fabledKiller Instinct III, owing to the fact that “first person shooter” and “online brawler” have been thrown around. I find the idea of a newPerfect Darkincredibly believable, especially since Rare rushed to complete the last one and will no doubt want to correct the problems it suffered....

Shadow Complex: Defending a boycott

I think you’ll find it’s a little bit more complicated than that. Here I hope to demonstrate why I, while not participating myself, find a boycott to be a perfectly reasonable course of action. One thing I willnotbe discussing is whether it is necessary to separate the artwork from the artist. I quickly realistic that this could warrant a whole post on its own, so I have chosen to focus on other arguments here....

Some of the best levels of all time

Pretty simple. We all like games, but we like some levels better than others.Facility–Goldeneye This level worked not only as a killer multiplayer level, but as a hell of a singleplayer mission, too. It’s where you first learned about shooting hats off people’s heads, that scientists are fun as hell to shoot, and how to get the most out of remote mines. Remember when at the beginning of the level, as you look down into a bathroom stall, that you had to be careful to shoot the soldier’s HEAD, and not his hat?...
