Where it differs from most other free, independent rouglikes — of which there area bunch in circulation — is how you attack. Instead of swinging a pixelated sword, you wield a gun. I have to admit, picturing a treasure hunter running through dungeons with modern-day weapons makes me giggle....

Croteam has let us know that a demo forSerious Sam HD: The First Encounteris going live on Steam today, and it looks like it’s pretty serious business. The demo will feature a full single-player level specifically designed for the demo, set in the game’s “Karnak” stage. Croteam says the demo level is so big that it could take players hours to get through on each difficult level; I expect speed run video submissions this weekend....

Tecmo Koei know how to have fun at TGS. They’re bringing back their cosplay contest this year. The costume showing at the Tecmo Koei booth on the TGS show floor on Saturday, September 17 at 3:30pm. I will be there with telephoto lens equipped. The official contest pagesays that they’re doing a screening using photos first. Everyone’s favorite puzzle game is coming to Xbox Live Arcade on Wednesday, in the form ofTetris Splash. While there’s a good chance that you already own some version of the puzzler already, this new one will cost you 800 Microsoft Points and will include a few different modes and “beautiful aquatic backscapes.” Tetris Splashwill offer offline multiplayer for 1-4 players as well as online multiplayer for 2-6 players. Ok, not like you didn’t notice, but I feel the need to stress it again — this game is friggin GORGEOUS. I could hardly believe I was sitting down to five and a half minutes of new footage when I checked out this Tokyo Game Show “alternate trailer”. Our previewtime withThe Cursed Crusadeat E3 this year was pretty short, but it was long enough to safely say that the title is looking great so far. I only got a taste of the combat and story, but it was enough to put this game on my list of games to watch out for.
