Review: JUMP!

I’ll be as forthcoming as I can: I didn’t finish, nor will I probably ever finishJUMP!, the first of several XBL Indie Game from Arkedo (the guys behindBig Bang Mini, if you’re keeping track) planned over the next few months. The basic premise ofJUMP!is about as retro as retro gets; you’re a little pixelated dude collecting pixelated bombs and coins, avoiding pixelated animals who can kill you with one hit. Also, if you lose all your lives, you have to restart the game....

Review: Resonance of Fate

On the face of it,Resonance of Fateappears to be a JRPG thoroughly invested in the unconventional. Yet, compared to some of its contemporaries, the game’s design philosophy is decidedly conservative. It retains, even emphasizes features that other titles, both western and Japanese, have been inclined to pare back or otherwise streamline in favor of creating a more accessible, storytelling-oriented experience. Ironically, that conservatism is part of what makes the gameas satisfying and enjoyable as it is to play, combining a near-obsessive focus on mechanics with an uncommon aesthetic to produce an experience that manages to feels refreshing and new while still retaining a recognizable, “old-school” core....

Rumor: Windows 8 OS might play Xbox 360 games

Here’s a rather interesting rumor that, despite being pretty crazy, has nevertheless gained traction. Gossip suggests that Microsoft’s upcomingWindows 8 OSwill be able to run Xbox 360 games, eliminating the need for a console. There is, of course, a catch. It’s suggested that MS will charge a subscription fee for the honor of playing 360 titles on your computer. It also allegedly runs the games on a network separate from Xbox Live, with no cross-game multiplayer due to controller disparities....

Rumortoid: PSP successor confirmed by mystery source

Pocket Gameris reporting that a new PSP has been confirmed by a mystery source within the development team. While some of the information is stuff we’ve already heard, mostly with our own ears, fresh trinkets of news includes the “fact” that it is due to arrive before Christmas, and that it is looking to be a potential iPhone beater. Once again, this new PSP is fabled to have a sliding screen that hides all the buttons, perhaps finally making the PSP useful for playing music and movies, since the current one is not....

SOE’s MMO library comes to STEAM

Everything else is on Steam. Why not some Evercrack too? Okay, so no one calls it that anymore. I did for the longest time. You see, I was the first person in line to pick up my preorder copy ofEverQuestat my local games joint. Yes, I drove there, I gave the game store girl some cash, she put it in a bag, I took it, jumped into my car, drove home, installed it,patched it, and then proceeded to get fat from not moving for months, consuming Mt....

Sony claims it’s not playing catch-up with Xbox Live anymore

If Microsoft did one thing absolutely right, it’s Xbox Live. Whether or not you agree with its subscription fees (I certainly don’t), there’s no denying that the Xbox 360’s online service is a success, as evidenced by the fact that it’s still used by millions of gamers, even in the face of the PlayStation 3’s completely free-to-play model. Despite Xbox Live’s long-established hold over the online console world, however, Sony remains confident that the PSN is holding its own....
