Remember therecent rumorthat Nintendo was going to announce a retro revival “everyone was waiting for” at its press conference this morning? Well, there are arguablyseveralgamesthat could describe this (nice job, Nintendo!), but I am assuming the mega company was referring to its reveal thatPunch-Out!!is coming to the Wii. Was “everyone” waiting for this? I’m not sure, but I do know I am currently one happy mo-fo that is jumping up and down with glee in front of his computer....

My hands-on time withModern Warfare 3’smultiplayer was way too short for me to form a deep preview at this time, but I thought you all should know for now that IT’S REALLY FREAKING GOOD. Visually, the graphics are just so sharp, crisp, and clean now. There’s actually a lot more detail than previous games, especially in the environment. Don’t get me wrong — it’s not a huge leap, but definitely loads better than in previous games....

Shmup classicR-Typewas released on Android yesterday, and you can grab it for 2.99 euro or $4.12 on theAndroid Market. For that price you get a mobile port with 3 control options to fit your playstyle, as well as a free trailer with music that doesn’t sound like theR-TypeI played 10+ years ago. (Then again it was 10+ years ago.) You’re probably best off taking a look at the user reviews to see if it crashes or if plays well on your Android device though....

A new IP management and production company, Radar Group, has announced its public launch today. Working on what they’ve trademarked as “Original Thinking,” the focus is on working with development teams who wish to establish and cultivate original IP. The first three games projects have been announced asEarth No More,Incarnate, andPrey 2. Radar Group is headed by a number of industry veterans, including Chief Creative Officer Scott Miller, founder of Apogee Software, co-founder of both 3D Realms and Gathering of Developers....

Few games have helped to mold and shape my love of gaming more thanMike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!. Mr. Dream can suck it for all I care, Iron Mike and his wacky rapist ways will always hold a place in my heart. I would have done a RetRose Tinted on that game long ago if I didn’t feel as though my near-monthly replaying of it wasn’t exactly in the spirit of this column....

I have a few gaming regrets. One of those is my neglect of space shooters. I didn’t really get into the genre until I was much older, when the multidirectional dual-stick shooter became the main means of play. I blame the lack of old-school space shooters in my life on the coin-sucking arcade machines that I played as a young boy.Space Invadersis cool until you spend two bucks and realize you’ve only clawed and scraped past the third level....

Today, Harmonix has revealed the bonus tracks that will ship with the Wii version ofRock Bandwhen it hits shelves this June. If these tracks look familiar, it’s because they have all be released as downloadable content for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions ofRock Band. So not only does the Wii version ship “gimped” — no online play, no downloadable content, no true “Band World Tour” mode — but the bonuses Wii owners get aren’t really all that special....

The Class Action lawsuit with Rockstar has been settled and if you were one of the many “victims” over the Hot Coffee incident,then you are entitled to some retribution. Rockstar will owe people either $35 or an updated copy of the game (which retails for $20 new). Now for people to receive the $35 or the updated copy, you have to prove that you bought a copy of the game before July 20th 2005, you were offended by the ability to do the modification of the game, that you wouldn’t have bought the game had you known about the mod in the first place and that you would have returned the game if possible upon learning about the mod....

Epic Games teased the world and chances are you missed it like we did. According toKotaku, theofficial Epic Games Web sitehad a momentary teaser with a still image and the words “It’s Unreal. And it’s almost here.” As for what the hell the company was teasing, well, that’s anyone’s guess at this point. It may have had something to do with different Unreal Engine tech or an Unreal-branded game. Hell, it may have even been teasing an Unreal-themed Snuggie given how metal (and warm-looking) thatGears of Warprototype body bag blanket looks....

In 2009, Texas-based TimeGate Studios releasedSection 8— the developer’s original first-person shooter — to retail. Next year, when the studio releases the follow up,Section 8: Prejudice, it’ll be taking a different approach — it’s going entirely digital. In early 2011Prejudicewill hit PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and PC (via services like Steam and Direct2Drive, as well as TimeGate’s own online storefront) simultaneously. Best news of all? TimeGate will be offering the entire game for only $14....

Gametap has such a soft spot for the retro gamer.
