The insides of my gaming systems are a mystery to me. I don’t know what the hell they’re doing to bring me my videogames, and I don’t really care. As long as they aren’t red-ringing or crashing in some other way the insides can stay inside. Others, however, are interested in how their gaming boxes work, and for them Microsoft has re-introduced theXbox Engineering Blog. The blog just started and only has an introductory post, but the promise of multiple posts a month is there....

Senators Hillary “Ice Queen Of The Frozen North” Clinton and Joe “Am I A Republican, Yet?” Lieberman,will be teaming upwith the ESRB for a campaign of public service announcements in the near future. These two politicians have long been proponents of more stringent laws around gaming companies regarding their use of sex, drugs, and hardcore, way awesome violence, so to see them team up with a group (the ESRB) whom they have publicly derided in the past, seems somewhat odd....

And I thoughtthisNinja Gaidenpapercraftwas awesome.I was very wrong. In fact after today and seeing the life size Link papercraft I’m pretty sure that all other papercrafts are going to pale in comparison. Life in general might pale in comparison to the greatness that is exuding from this thing. While part of the excitement in me might be theZeldafanboy talking, it’s pretty clear that the above papercraft exudes nothing but awesomeness....

Reason 6,943 that I wish I lived in Tokyo: On November 18th the Mega Man “Rockman” 20th anniversary commemorative event will be held, showcasing a photo corner with pics from Mega Man’s illustrious history, a special mystery guest, and of course special swag. In case you happen to be in the far east, the event will take place in Ikebukuro Sunshine City at the Cultural Center in Hall B from 9 am to 4 pm....

Only the holidays and Blizzard’sWorld of Warcraftcould result in the unlikely rhyming of “Frozen Throne” and “Home Alone.” We have our friend and musical satirist Insane Ian to thank for that one, with his holiday release, “WOW Christmas.” Like his previous Resident Evil-themed track“Umbrella Chronicles”— a take off of Rhianna’s “Umbrella”– the track has plenty of hilarious nods to the source material. In a misguided attempt to make PCs more affordable (or more likely a crafty attempt to squeeze money out of people), Microsoft hasfiled a patentfor a “pay as you go” PC subscription system. The basic idea is that you “build” a computer out of a set of parts, each with an associated cost, then Microsoft builds the computer, sends it to you, and you pay for it for every hour that you use it....

Before the weekend, Take-Two announced that the Xbox 360’s exclusiveGrand Theft Auto IVDLCwould be delayeduntil next year, but it seems that Microsofthas other ideas. The company, which paid a David Bowie’s ransom for the downloadable content, is still pretty sure we’ll be seeing more from Liberty City later this year. “Comment from us stays at: ‘The first of the Xbox 360 exclusive “Grand Theft Auto IV” episodes will be available beginning fall 2008,” stated an MS rep....

There seemed to be widespread confusion overWorld of StarCraft, a mod which Blizzard found to be fair game, except for the name. The project has not been canceled or anything — just a title change, is all. It’s now being referred to asStarCraft Universe. My biggest qualm with the initial announcement wasn’t the content. No, it was the (admittedly understandable) lack of clarity on what the mod would entail. We were kindly given a link tothis forum posttoday, which details the commonly-asked questions....

This mind teaser column was the first reoccurring article on the site, and after more than three fun and challenging years, it’s just as exciting, but growing harder to come up with new ideas! I love how SEGA sent a press release this morning that said, “SEGA Genesis Classics Return,” as if the publisher has ever let these games go away. What it should have said it, “SEGA Genesis Classics Getting Whored Out Like A 100-Year-Old Prostitute At An All You Can Suck Dick Meeting Again.” In other words, some more Genesis games are being released on the PC. The fourth installment of SEGA Genesis Classics” will be available via your usual digital distributors for $2....

Monday evening was a special night for me for many reasons. I finally got Ben PerLee to agree to touch my breasts, but more importantly Deep Silver hosted an event here in San Francisco for their newest racing game,Nail’d. Nail’dand I go way back, you see. Natural Selection 2is a game we haven’t really covered before in any official capacity. I don’t have a good reason as to why that is, but I’m here to make amends. This real-time strategy/first-person shooter hybrid has always been on my radar under the “fascinating yet far off” category. “I’ll cover it when the time comes.” Well, the time has come.
