Bowser stomp! Mario & Luigi 3 RPG commercial

Chad Concelmo and I were both jumping up and down with delight when we heard news that anew Mario and Luigi RPG was in the works, considering that we both love the series. This new Japanese commercial for the game (starring the droolworthy Yuri Ebihara) shows off some really exciting gameplay with Bowser barreling across both screens of the DS. I didn’t think it was possible, but I’m somehow ever MORE hyped for this game now than I was before....

Breaking news: Ken Levine is awesome

I’ve heard a lot of things aboutBioShockcreator Ken Levine over the years. Some say he’s just a figurehead, that in reality he leaves all the design work to his interns while he spends his days shopping online for antique clocks. Others say he’s a relentless, tyrannical overlord, who’ll destroy an entire week’s worth of his team’s work just because he had a dream about talking llamas the night before. I still hear rumors about an all-llama, pre-alpha version ofBioShockthat’s floating out there somewhere....

Brinkhits North America tomorrow, and Bethesda’s put out a final trailer in anticipation. It bigs up the game’s civil war premise, and features loads of shooting and jumping. That’s all you need, really. We’ve been playingBrinksince Thursday and our review will go up at some silly time tonight. Stay tuned, because this game is going to be the subject of hot discussion this week, I reckon. So who’s picking this up for PS3?...

CES: Mad Catz has 3DS accessories, mini Wii controllers

Getting a 3DS and need accessories? Mad Catz is on the case. Or, they’re making cases for the 3DS. They’re making cases, styluses and screen protectors. I saw their new line-up at CES yesterday, where all of this was on display. There’s a cool camera style (movable soft dividers) 3DS cased called the Traveller. For about $20 it will hold your 3DS, cables, stylus and a ton of games. The smaller Microsuede Wallet is more my speed....

Civ III to teach kids all about beavers, loonies, and Scott Thompson

As a proud American, my knowledge of Canadian history is rather rudimentary. The classes I attended in high school informed me that it was a gift from Odin to the ancient Vikings, and that in 1952 it was purchased by the French to satiate their lust for the delicious pelts of the Inuit people. Everything beyond that is kinda hazy. Thanks to Sid Meier’s magnum opus,Civilization III, however, Canada’s children need not wallow in the darkness of ignorance, like so many of their southern brethren!...

CNN travels back in time, discovers RapeLay controversy

You heard it here first. CNN has somehow managed to build a time machine that allows them to travel into the past. That’s the only possible explanation for why they seem to think it’s still 2009 and that RapeLay is news. It’s certainly not because they are completely out of touch with this subject matter or anything. No sir. To the credit of the news agency, at least some attempt to present multiple perspectives on the subject was made....

Comments of the week: Front page get edition

Welcome to the Comments of the Week! Comments of the Week is a feature where we scour the front page, community blogs and forums picking out comments. The ones that make you think, the ones that make you laugh and the ones that make you cry (but also laugh), and consolidate them into an entertaining package for the viewing pleasure of you, the Destructoid community. I will be taking captaincy of the feature, but will be enlisting the help of other community members....

Congrats, Amnesia buyers: You saved Frictional Games

Amnesia: The Dark Descentis, hands-down, the scariest, best horror game in years. Thankfully enough, many of you – approximately 200,000 of you over four months – were interested enough to buy into it. Turns out your moneys saved Frictional Games from the brink of ruin. Congratulations! In a post over at their blog, the small Swedish Indie That Could spilled the details of rescue, noting that the sales – over double their greatest dream estimates, have put them back on stable ground, and that a lot of the money they made could not have come had they had the kinds of financial obligations that come from being tied to a big publisher....

Criterion reveal new ‘Extreme Hotrod’ for Burnout Paradise

OK, let’s me just say this right now — Criterion has done downloadble content better than anyone else this generation. Sure, Harmonix/MTV are rocking it weekly withRock BandDLC, but Criterion’sBurnout Paradisestuff? All free, and mostly radically game-changing. Today, the developer has revealed yet another new addition to the series, the “Extreme Hotrod.” Sometimes in early 2009, the new Carson Extreme Hotrod will be made available. They’re teasing that the car will re-imagine the game’s boost system, and will handle more realistically than any other vehicle in the game; other than that, they’re keeping quiet on specifics....

Crysis 2 trailer #1,452 tells you to ‘Be Fast’

Is it just me, or hasCrysis 2had enough trailers to string together a short film? Ah well, here’s another one for your viewing pleasure, centered around the Nanosuit’s athletic capabilities. It’s good to see a single-player trailer, in any case. Haven’t had one of those in a while, and the single-player is what I’m most interested in. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for this one. I just hope EA’s obsession withCall of Dutyhasn’t forced Crytek to become a “me-too” developer with a three-hour campaign and endless “stay frosty” quotes....

Crystal Dynamics is not all about huge breasts

Recently1UPtook the time to talk to the development team that created Lara Croft and her massive “assets,” Crystal Dynamics. The interview focused on the transition that the company is seeking to make after the upcoming Tomb Raider title,Tomb Raider: Underworld. When asked about the possibility of further expansion within the studio outside of Lara Croft, director of design Noah Hughes had this to say: When I talk about our appearance, we look at ourselves as an exciting game development studio, not aTomb Raiderhouse....

Culdcept coming to 3DS, taunts me

One of my favorite games of recent years isCuldcept, a unique fusion of collectible card and board game mechanics that I find absolutely enchanting. A number of Destructoid’s editors and I used to play the Xbox 360 releaseCuldcept Sagaon a regular basis despite rarely finishing a game due to its dodgy netcode. And at today’s 3DS conference in Japan, Nintendo announced that Omiya Soft would be bringing the series to 3DS....
