First PS4 rumor points to backwards compatibility

Gamer.tmsays that Sony is looking for a software engineer to deal with backward compatibility for both the PS3 and an unnamed next-gen console. Next-gen console, huh? Unless Sony has changed their naming scheme, this would probably be the PlayStation 4. Don’t quote us on that, though. It is said that they’re looking for an engineer to implement and optimize emulation software for not only the PS1 and PS2, but the PSP and PS3 on both formats as well....

Georgia to give tax breaks to game devs

As Destructoid’s resident backwater, inbred, slack-jawed hillbilly, I’ve developed something of a thick skin when it comes to snarky remarks about slavery, obesity, illiteracy, conservative politics, and an overabundance of Bibles. Well, the pinko-liberal sector can shove it where the sun don’t shine, since Georgia governor Sonny Perdue recently signed the 2008 Entertainment Industry Investment Act, effectively giving game developers in Georgia a 20% tax break. These tax incentives apply to movies, TV shows, commercials, music videos and, thankfully, video games....

Hands on: Blacksite: Area 51

[Note: Robert Summa also spent some time with an earlier version of the game back in January. You can find his impressionshere.] Depending on how much (or what kind of) pot you smoked in high school, you may or may not have tender memories of the originalArea 51arcade light-gun shooter. Years later, Midway games released a surprisingly solid first-person shooter, loosely based on the original arcade game. The title fared well enough at retail, so a follow-up was inevitable, as there’s certainly money to be made....

Heavenly Sword Part II: The Guardian of the Sword

The latest installment of the animatedHeavenly Swordshorts has hit the net today. This second short, entitled “Guardian of the Sword,” delves deeper in the mythos and history of the “heavely sword” itself. Apparently, it consumes the souls of men, driving them mad with bloodlust. That doesn’t sound similar to anything else, does it? The PlayStation 3 game itself is absolutely gorgeous, without a doubt, touting some of the smoothest animation seen in videogames to date....
