Bungie’s mysterious “Superintendent” returns

Remember the new game that Bungie was set to announce at E3 before Microsoftpulled the plug? Well, it looks like they’re gearing back up, as a new and cryptic message from the “Superintendent” has appeared onBungie’s site. Very little can be gleaned from the image above and its accompanying text, which consists of a conversation log. It appears as though the “Superintendent” is some sort of artificial intelligence, associated with the USNC and running into a bit of trouble....

Castle Crashers hits one million players

Yesterday saw a milestone forCastle Crashersas the XBLA side-scrolling beat-em-up hitone million players. After only ten months on the service at that. It should not come as any surprise. The game has managed to keep itself in thetop tengames purchased over Live Arcade even as recently as last month where it spent at least three of the four weeks in the top three. Still, that’s a metric s–t ton of sales for an indie developer....

Clive Barker calls Roger Ebert on his crap

Clive Barkerwas one of my literary heroes long before he entered the gaming universe. Rarely is such a perverse and twisted individual simultaneously intelligent and beautifully spoken, but Clive’s no stranger to this mixture. Not one to take rubbish lying down, Barker addressedRoger Eberton theDigital Trendspodcast, saying: “[Ebert’s] a pompous, arrogant old man, and he’s not going to stop us from making games or enjoying them or… making them art.”...

Crysis 2 will be a ‘Halo Killer’ according to EA

Didn’t the term “HaloKiller” stop being cool five years ago? Apparently not, with Electronic Arts’ Frank Gibeau invoking the perpetually false term while bigging up Crytek’s big shooter sequel,Crysis 2. In fact, Gibeau quite frankly states that the team is actively trying to craft one of these so-called killers. “…We were trying to craft aHalo Killer, you know a product that would squarely go after what Bungie built with our partners at Crytek,” he explains....

Darksiders trailer rides on a not-so-pale horse

Death still follows, though. After the jump, you can check out a trailer THQ recently released forDarksiders. Thing is, I’m either crazy or I’ve absolutely seen this before. I seem to recall car throwing, epic horseback riding and a giant worm cropping up sometime in the past, but I haven’t found any evidence to support my admittedly spotty memory. So, worst case scenario, you get it again. On a largely unrelated note, do you know who I think really nailed the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?...

Dynasty Warriors & Samurai Warriors make sweet love to produce bastard child

Koei is known for two things – repetitive, number crunching strategy games set in ancient China and repetitive, button mashing action games set in ancient China. I have always been a huge fan of the latter, a follower of theDynasty Warriorsseries for many years. Perhaps follower is a little too light – more like a devout worshipper, ensnared by the endless, mindless hack n’ slash madness, terrible voice acting and hair metal soundtrack....

E3 09: Star Wars: The Old Republic live demo impressions

A few minutes ago I got the opportunity to see a live demo (hands off, unfortunately) of BioWare and LucasArts’ MMO,Star Wars: The Old Republic. The focus of the first part of the two-part demo was on the Bounty Hunter class. It opened with a bit of story (unique to the class) that then morphed into a routine “kill them all”-type mission where the player was tasked with blasting groups of gun-toting brigands....

E3 2007: So, who “won” the E3 press conferences?

This is the question I’ve been seeing all over forums and throughout my Bloglines account. I’ve seen fanboys scream one way or another. After a while, the mindless screaming can be irritating, but it’s always a fun debate. So, between Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, who do you think won? Well, thanks to the community blogs, we can tell what you’re thinking! Just to start off, imbeta’s bloghad quite a few of us on the staff laughing, so I figured y’all might want to see it too....

E3: Hands-on with Supremacy MMA

I don’t mean to shock you, but I am not a very manly guy. I know, I know. Stop clutching your pearls. So when I got to try out a gameplay demo for 505 Games’ new fighting gameSupremacy MMA(out this September for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), I wasn’t sure what to expect. I know nothing about MMA fighting, and, honestly, didn’t even know what “MMA” stood for until I looked it up on my way to the meeting....
