Sony uses the words ‘significant’ and ‘PSP’ in the same sentence

You have to hand it to Sony, the PlayStation brand holder possesses optimism that verges on insanity. Despite common sense informing us otherwise, Sonyhas promised, yet again, that the PlayStation Portable is not done yet, stating that “significant” games are coming to reinvigorate the system’s unimpressive Western performance. “This year we are also launching a host of significant PlayStation IPs on the PSP platform,”claimsClaire Backhouse, who has the unfortunate job of being Sony’s PSP UK product manager....

Sony’s surround gaming headsets are sexy

Sony has a duo of gaming headsets coming to market. The best one is the DR-GA500, which sports 7.1 channel digital surround sound (Dolby Pro Logic IIx), which they say is perfect for first-person shooters. There’s also a DR-GA200. It sports the same 40mm drivers and triple enfolding design, but doesn’t have all the fancy surround processing. …a soundscape rich in precision spatial detail that pinpoints everything from a stealthy footstep to the position of an exploding grenade....

Sony’s “Remote input device” patent

Did Sony simply follow in Nintendo’s footsteps and copy their motion-sensing idea while developing the SIXAXIS for the PS3? We don’t know … that’s one argument that will probably never reach a conclusion. Has Sony copied Nintendo in the past? Definitely. Will they do it again?Mostdefinitely. If I could direct your attention to this pagehere. An input device providing users with a pointing capability includes a sender portion and a receiver portion....

Soul burn on the go: New Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny art

Soul burn sounds like something you’d have to take a pill for, but it’s a good thing. Trust me on this.I’ve played a bit ofSoulcalibur: Broken Destinyalready, and I think it has to be one of the best examples of how to do a fighter on-the-go. First off, it’s gorgeous for a portable fighter. And the control is spot-on. It’s just a really impressive package, and I’m looking forward to getting my own copy when it releases for PSP on September 1st....

Stop what you are doing, watch the Metroid: Other M TV ad

It must be speaking to some instinctual drive because I’m rationally aware that this could represent something of a homogenization in the industry. And yet I can’t be bothered to care because it does what it sets out to do. It makes me want to buyMetroid: Other M. Nothing else matters.

TGS 09: Someone get Alan Wake a gun and a flashlight!

Live from the Tokyo Game Show we can confirm two things. The first is that long-delayedAlan Wakeexists, as developer Remedy was kind enough to show it to us behind-closed-doors group demo session yesterday. The second is that, as Brad pointed out, there is a helicopter in the game. Allow me to put that second point into a bit of context. Remedy revealed part of a previously unseen “episode” (the game is structured like a television show, completely with Lost-inspired “previously on” cut-scenes), one in which Wake is being pursued by a police helicopter....
