You remember, Bit.Trip BEAT, don’t you? It’s that rhythm-action game that usesPongas a foundation, but builds off of it with visual metaphors, score multipliers, big-time bosses, power-ups-and-downs, and most importantly, tons of different types of aggressive little squares flying around on-screen at all times. It’s those squares that truly make the game a transcendental experience. For more about that, check out our review for the originalWiiWare build of the game. Other than some new control options, online multiplayer, achievements, and what looks like slightly scaled down graphics, this game is exactly the same game that was released on the Wii last year....
For the people who playedRoogooon Xbox LIVE Arcade (the game’s original platform), they discovered a challenging little puzzle game with an addictive multiplayer that could get you yelling at your opponents quite easily. For those that didn’t play it they missed out.Roogoois one of those underrated gems that never got the attention it deserved. It’s noTetris, but it sure is one of the better puzzle games I’ve played in a good long while....
Australia’s prehistoric and out-of-touch rating system has claimed another videogame’s life, with the Australian rating boardrefusing to classifythe upcoming Deep Silver-published RPGRisen. This is the first I’ve heard ofRisenactually containing that much questionable content, but it’s certainly made me ten times more interested in the game. This is the third game of 2009 to be banned by Australia, followingNecrovisionandSexy Poker. Apparently, there’s quite a bit of sex and violence in the game, which led to the Mature rating it got in America....
The ever lovable Jordan Devore discovered the other day that Adult Swim used a quote of his for the TV ad forGive Up, Robot. After seeing the ad, I decided to check out the game and to finally playRobot Unicorn Attack. Yeah, I’m six months late on that train. I know. Anyway,Robot Unicorn Attackis like that high you get after not sleeping for three days straight. It’s absolutely awesome and the first thing I thought after finally pulling myself away from the game was how awesome it would be on the iPhone....
Next week’sRock BandDLC is not only set to rock your face off, but arm you with a bit of music trivia. You’re probably already familiar with Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s 80s hit, “Relax.” But did you know that the version included on the band’s debut,Welcome to the Pleasuredome, was entitled “Relax (Come Fighting),” and is a different mix than one of the 301 remixes you may have also heard. Fans of reverberated kick drum and useless bar trivia, take note here....
According toEngadgets sources, Activision may be giving its drum peripheral a makeover whenGuitar Hero 5ships this fall. The blurry render sent to the tech Web site shows equipment far less bulky than the original set, and also features a pair of rounded cymbals. What’s less obvious is that the drums kick pedal also reportedly may attach to a middle bar that sits on the floor, similar to Harmonix’sRock Banddrum kit. (Many, included myself, found themselves frustrated with the Guitar Hero kick pedal which would tend to sneak away from your foot during play sessions....

In their latest Top 10, ScrewAttack chalked up their list of the top 10Mariotitles — no easy feat, considering Mario’s colossal 200+ game appearances. One caveat, though: to be considered forzee list, the player has to be able to playasMario in the game, soMario Picrossfans might be a wee bit disappointed. Spoiler alert: coming in at numero uno wasSMB3, which will come as a great surprise to almost nobody in particular....
I hear this often, and it’s starting to bug me. Yes, we know thatShenmueand the sequel did sell that well. But even more than that, I think Sega’s still hurting from how much they spent to produce those games. Sure, they were large in scope, and the stretching of detailed facial textures for facial animation was a big deal at the time, but did it really cost that much? And if it did, what did the money go into?...
No more fighting, folks.Super Smash Bros. Brawl‘s designer,Masahiro Sakurai, has revealed onthe site’s official pagethat you’re going to havechoices when it comes to how you play the game. As Sakurai put it, the Wii is versatile, allowing for four different control schemes. He just had “no choice but implement [sic] them all!” He then goes on to say thatherecommends the GameCube controller, effectively confirming the fact that the Nintendo Wii is really, after all, two GameCube’s duct taped together....
Despite only costing $7.99 and being worth the money,Serious Sam: Double Dhas been cracked and distributed among pirates to a considerable enough degree that developer Nathan Fouts isn’t too thrilled. Rather than go on the warpath, however, he’s decided to appeal to good old human nature. One has to admire the optimism! Fouts hasput a “Donate” buttonon his site and is actively pleading with anybody who pirated the game and enjoyed it to send some cash along for his trouble....
