Splinter Cell: Lag of death

So, I’m hopelessly addicted toSplinter Cell Double Agentand its multiplayer gameplay on the 360. The only thing that keeps pushing my hard on back down? The f*cking lag! It’s just about unbearable most of the time. When the game is lag free, it’s brilliant, but when it lags (which is about 50% of the time) it’s completely unplayable and broken. You’ll see what I mean in this video. Stuff like this happens ALL the time....

SSX trailer reintroduces us to Mac

It sure does feel good to see those striped ramps again. It’s been too long. Here’s the latest trailer forSSX, with the focus this time set on Mac. Fairly standard choice, as far as returning characters go. We’re still looking at pre-alpha footage here, if the black warning label wasn’t enough to go on. Nick and I have decided that EA needs to do a high-def bundle that includesSSX TrickyandSSX 3....

Starcraft II’s lead producer on the decision to remove LAN

As part of my trip to Blizzard last month, I spoke with the lead producer ofStarCraft II, Chris Sigaty. Right off the bat, I asked him the question that’s really been on everyone’s mind — why is there no LAN play inStarCraft II? His response? “There’s lots of reasons,” he told me. “Probably the biggest reason, the most important factor for us is, when you experience the new online experience — it’s an integrated experience....

Suck at fighting games? Street Fighter IV’s Trial Mode can lend a helping hand

There’s a reason why, up until recently, I have been unable to competently playStreet Fighter II. It’s hard to learn a fighting game’s mechanics when you are somewhat new to the genre and the majority of those playing online are simply unstoppable in comparison. Thanks to my good friendsBradandZombutlerbeing at a comparable skill level inSuper Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, I finally started “getting” the game. Realizing that not everyone has friends to practice with, Capcom decided to potentially open upStreet Fighter IVto a slew of new players by including a deep training mode....

The Best of Tokyo Game Show cosplay: Part 2

Here’s the second half of our look atthe cosplayers and crossplayers of TGS, as edited by the lovely and talented Dale North. I forgot how crowded this whole scene was. All thecosplayerswere gathered outside, in-between halls, backed in a little lot. The scene was so over stimulating, and awesome. There was a lot more where this came from, but my battery died, and it didn’t recharge until the show was pretty much over....

Sony has today announced thatThe Sly Collection— the PS3 re-release of theSly Coopergames — will hit store shelves for the very reasonable price of $39.99. The start of the affair: NHL 95

Yes, it’s technically July here on the East Coast, but I had my heart and mind set on writing a “start of the affair” article, so here it is. I must confess something to you all: before I got a PS2, my game collection consisted (nearly) entirely of sports games. I’ve played many of them over the years —Super Baseball 2020,NFL Quarterback Club 96, andMVP Baseball 2005— but I remember no sports videogame more fondly than EA Sports’NHL 95on the Sega Genesis....

These League of Legends screens look familiar

Want to know what these screenshots remind me of? Tropical Skittles, and yes, I’m being completely serious here. Don’t lie — you can see it now too, can’t you? Just look at that color palette! Dale gotdown and dirty withLeague of Legends: Clash of Fatesrecently at GDC 09, and he seemed to enjoy the spiritual sequel toDefense of the Ancientsquite a bit. It’s great to hear that someone like him who hadn’t played theWarcraft 3mod was able to get behind the concept, and hopefully it means good things for Riot Games....

This is what Dead Space 2’s box art looks like

As revealedon the officialDead Space 2Facebook page, the game has gotten cover art. Uh, neat! I was hoping they’d have a floating leg this time around to follow up the original game’s box art, but I dig the simplicity of this design. In an effort to make an otherwise short post look a tad bit longer, allow me to point out the subtle blood spray on the lettering and Isaac Clarke’s eyes (you can totally see them)....
