Skate 3 co-op reminds us what skating is all about

This new trailer forSkate 3that EA sent out to us is really good. It’s an example of what cooperative play could be like for you and your friends. What’s so effective about it is how it captures the essence of what it’s like to hang out with your buddies and think of ways to injure yourselves. Now, through the magic of videogames, we can do it consequence free. I have a sneaking suspicion that this looks a whole lot more fun that I would actually find it to be....

SkyDrift gets ‘Extreme Fighters’ on PSN, Xbox Live

Digital Reality’s aerial racer has gotten a bit of downloadable content. For $1.49 (or 160 Microsoft Points), the Extreme Fighters Pack adds three new playable planes toSkyDrift. As per usual, each comes with four skins. That second one looks amazing — almost worthy of its own ’80s cartoon. The developers are also teasing more DLC for next week, which supposedly features new modes and multiplayer arenas. That’d do the trick....

I don’t know why I spend all this time trying to plan different types of contests for you guys to win all this free swag I’m sitting on. All photo contests should be renamedMake The Dtoid Staff Laugh Uncontrollably, because it’s always the funny pictures that win. Space Invaders Extreme XBLA comes with Space Invaders Not Very Extreme?

Space Invaders Extremeis a damn fine DS title, and it’s sure to look even prettier on an HDTV when it comes to the Xbox Live Arcade. If you don’t like pretty things, however, don’t worry. The XBLA version looks like it willinclude the old schoolSpace Invadersgame for nothing. As always, it’s left to the ESRB to give the details away, stating thatExtreme“includes the original version ofSpace Invaders, as well as new stages, bosses, and alien types....

Square Enix announces Song Summoner, an RPG for your iPod

Do I want to play games on a phone, MP3 player or digitized flat screen installed on the inside of my eyelid? As tempting as the last one may be to some, all three are unappealing to this gamer, who prefers to do it the old-fashioned way — with a controller, a giant television and a weekend to fritter away. If you like the idea of portable gaming (not to mention portable RPGs), however, this news ought to sit well with you....

Stop whining: PS3 version of The Orange Box isn’t broken, please relax

If you were to believe the hype, the PlayStation 3 version ofThe Orange Boxis an unplayable mess. The man would have you believe that the game (which ran so smoothly on capable PCs and the Xbox 360) suffers from game-breaking frame-rates issues, resulting in what 1UP called a “slideshow.”We ran the story, and the responses ranged from Xbox 360 owners laughing, to Sony fans cursing Electronic Arts for not being able to deliver a competent port....

Strange Dead Space 2 letters/images arrive in the mail

Reader Brian Hackney gets some weird stuff in his mail. He just shot over to us some strangeDead Space 2material that showed up in his real-life inbox the other day. The documents include notes from a doctor who seems to be taking care of someone who is undergoing transformation into a Necromorph, a Rorschach test and an envelope with a stain on it that resembles the silhouette of a man....

Taiko no Tatsujin coming to the Wii, I take off my pants

Yeah, you heard me. I’m excited about anythingTaiko no Tatsujin-related (as you may have noticed frommy c-blogheader), but hearing that the Wii would soon be getting aTaikotitle made my day today. The title was spied inNamco-Bandai’s 2008 Financial Summary Report, and although all it says is that the game is scheduled to come out in 2008, that’s all I need to know. The game is unnamed right now, but here’s to hoping we find out more details as the year rolls by....

The best Dead Space 2 unboxing you are likely to see

Even if you don’t like unboxing videos, I would recommend that you watch this one. It’s Linda Le (aka Vampy) cracking through theDead Space 2collector’s edition and showing all the goodies inside. It’s all pretty standard and you’d be forgiven for wanting to click away. Pleasing to the eye as Vampy is, itisjust a bunch of paper and stuff. But then there’s that Plasma Cutter. Seeing it in action is much more impressive than I expected it would be....
