Destructoid Review: Eternal Sonata

For those of you waiting patiently for a solid RPG to come to the 360,Eternal Sonatahas long been simmering on your must-play list. After disappointing reviews of the highly anticipatedBlue Dragon, Namco-Bandai’s tale of the dreams of dying composer Frederic Chopin was cast in an even rosier light than before. Still, the question is the same for every modern RPG: Will the story provide a backbone for an engaging, rewarding gaming experience?...

Destructoid’s games of the week for 1/21/07: Kittens are cute edition!

Usually, this is the place where I would elucidate for a page and a half with lies, half-truths and pictures of bears in an effort to entertain you (and, more importantly, myself), but when I woke up today, the above picture was the first thing I saw and it has utterly sucked away any ability I may have had to entertain. Instead, I’m left a husk of a man, only barely able to feed myself....

Destructoid’s games of the week for 12-06-2025: cow-eating tree edition!

I realize Destructoid’s focus is often on video games and the errata encircling the hobby, but did you know that Destructoid was also partly founded on our love for the bovine world? Video games are great, but cows give us so much! Leather, beef, um … more leather; there isn’t anything you’re able to’t get from a cow! Of course, it was only a matter of time before those jealous chlorophyll fiends in the plant world decided they want some of our action, so it’s with great horror that I bring you the story of the “pili mara....

Dino murder mode coming to Project Blackout

Project Blackout, an MMO of the first-person shooter variety, is a free-to-play game by SG Interactive (formerly Ntreev). As is the case with FPS games, there is a lot of killing with a variety of weapons, but this game will soon feature a mode involving the slaughter of dinosaurs with bullets. Dino mode will, as you can see in this shiny new trailer, pit players against the nastier variety of prehistoric monsters....

Divinity creators’ new game is Dragon Commander

Divinity II: Ego Draconisand itsDragon Knight Sagaexpansion/re-release have created a fair following of fans. Because turning into a dragon and laying waste to everything is a pretty great idea, Belgium-based Larian Studios has been working on expanding on that. InDragon Commanderyou’ll play as one of the first Dragon Knights, who will wage war in massive aerial fights that involves dragons, technology, and magic in an Art Nouveau/Steampunk world. It also has RPG elements and turn-based strategy, although it’s hard to tell how that is going to work out exactly....

Dtoid Shirts Reprinted: Squidbear’s Revenge!

It’s been a good couple of weeks since I’ve hamfistedly typed some ridiculous shpeel about how you guys should buy something, and frankly, that’s way too long. The infamousSquidbearshirts are back in stock. Most shirts are printed by applying ink to fabric. This one, however, had the ink sucked out of it. How was this done? I don’t know. Probably by a machine or a sorcerer. Maybe both. The point is, the image on this shirt will last as long as the fabric itself....

E3 08: Confirmed! Puppy Suit is an instrument in WiiMusic

WiiMusicis chockfull of all the instruments you’d expect to be available for waggling your Wiimote to, as well as a few other ‘instruments’ that you absolutely didn’t expect. While the full hands-on report will be arriving to the site a little later on, I figured I’d whet your appetite for what’s to come by introducingWiiMusic‘s Puppy Suit instrument. Available amidst the harmony options, the Puppy Suit is, well, your Mii wearing a Puppy Suit....

E3 08: Interview with GameCock CEO Mike Wilson

Out of all the publishers at E3 this year, only a few had line ups that were completely free of crap. Ironically, one of those publishers wasn’t even at E3. During this year’s event,Gamecockheld their own private conference in a secret location somewhere in the greater Los Angeles area. There I was permitted to sample each of their upcoming home console releases:Legendary, a fantastic modern day disaster tale,Mushroom Men, a sort of Pikmin-Mario-Zelda hybrid featuring the music of Les Claypool,Dungeon Hero, a game that takes a serious look at the true, uncensored lives of your average dungeon dwelling goblin, andVelvet Assassin, a ball stabbing extravaganza of epic proportions....

E3 10: This Comic Jumper trailer does not disappoint

This latest trailer for Twisted Pixel’sComic Jumperis kind of, well, it’s kind of amazing. Nick Chester and I find the game to be pretty funny, but I know there are a lot of cynics and otherwise-hard-to-please individuals in the audience. Perhaps this video will do it for you? Just so we’re clear what it is I’m referring to here, Captain Smiley uses a woman to surf down a roof, and — during the manga-inspired portion of the game — you apparently get to battle a floating, real-life kid’s head while riding a unicorn....

E3 2007: Lost Odyssey trailer is a little slice of jRPG heaven

Just because Square-Enix opted tothrow the banhammerdown onFinal Fantasy XIIIat this year’s E3 doesn’t mean there isn’t enoughRPG loveto go around. Admittedly, E3 has been mostly aboutexplosionsandgunsandchest-stomping, but thereissome news for the more sword-and-spell types. You just have to dig for it.Behold theLost Odysseytrailer where we learn a little about Kaim’s history. He is, for all intents and purposes, immortal, having been alive for at least a millenia. The story centers around the mystery of his longevity and how he deals with the emotional trauma that 1000 years worth of memories has caused him....

E3 will have PC games, well duh

A recent rumor has been making the Internet rounds stating that this year’s E3 would beall but bereftof anything that wasn’t played on a console. Obviously, this isn’t the case, and was erroneously concocted when Microsoft stated that they would not be focusing on PC games at E3 after holding theGames for Windows conferencelast month. Processor manufacturer Intel also mentioned that they would be skipping this year’s show. It seems that some people were quick to take this as news of no PC games being at E3 whatsoever, but hey, what about all the third party developers?...

E3: Star Fox 64 3D coming this fall, with face recording

Nintendo’sStar Fox 64remake for 3DS is coming along nicely. During today’s press conference, Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed thatStar Fox 64 3Dwill release this September. The game will have optional gyroscopic controls, but more cool is the addition of the camera during multiplayer battles. The game will record all your facial reactions and utilize them in floating stars, when you get kills, and at the end of the game. It’s a pretty nice feature, similar to snapshots in games likeBurnout Paradise....
