Turbine talks console MMO

Recently, we had the opportunity to talk to Adam Mersky, Director of Communcations at Turbine, about an unannounced MMO title for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 currently in development at Turbine. Details are extremely limited at this time, but Mersky was encouraging when talking about the development of the ongoing project. We’re looking at creating, hopefully, the first MMO that really works. Right now we’re looking at if for the 360 and the PS3…We’re not going to rush to be first so-to-speak, but clearly we’re leading the way....

UK Charts: Killzone 2 is blatantly better than Halo Wars

Yesterday, we wrote an article confirming without a doubt thatKillzone 2is better thanHalo 3. It seems our words touched the hearts of the great British public, as the PS3 exclusive has managed to knockHalo Warsinto second place. For once, the UK charts actually look interesting, which makes a change from the usualFIFA/World at War/Wii Fitgangbang that we have to endure each week.Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collectionis stll there, whileProfessor Laytonhas crawled up the chart to number 5....

UK Charts: Wolverine no match for Wii Fit

That’s right. For the fifth week in a row,Wii Fitis inexplicablystillthe number one selling “game” in the UK. The sad irony is thatWolverineis one of the few movie-based videogames that doesn’t suck, and it has become one of the few movie-based videogamesnotto top the chart. There’s something about which makes me feel sick to my frigging kidneys. I think this has officially sealed my opinion that the general public is absolutely, unfathomably stupid and that if a nuclear warhead detonated and wiped out the majority of the human race, it would be no greater tragedy than if a fly drowned in some soapy water....

Video: Xperia play in action

You can’t make an announcement without a ton of promotional videos, and Sony Ericsson’s covered its butt with the Xperia Play today. There’s a lot of marketing speak and hype here, but also some great information, along with some footage of the device in action. You might even learn a few things. For example, did you know those little empty circle pads where analog sticks should be are actually touch sensitive, and can be used for analog stick-style control?...

Viral marketing for DiRT hits Flickr

Ahh, viral marketing. Sometimes it’swildly successful, but, more often than not, it’s thebuttof the internetfor months. However, this doesn’t seem to be stopping Codemasters, the developers behindDiRT: Colin McRae Off-Road,from whipping up their own little guerilla advertising scheme. Flickr, the most easy-to-use and voyeuristic photo-sharing community since sliced bread, is the proud new owner of shabby viral marketing.Enter Dirty1CMD, ostensibly a fan of the Colin McRae series who is salivating at the thought of its next installment....

Will Wright says games need to appeal to more people

Here isa bit of a no-brainer from game designing god Will Wright during an interview with theChronicle of Higher Education: “We’ve had this cultural bias against games for the last 20 years, and a lot of it I think is self-deserved, because if you look at what people are doing with technology it is for the most part directed toward 12-year-old boys. But that doesn’t mean the format doesn’t have the potential to do a whole lot more....

Yarns-on with Kirby’s Epic Hands

Good God, we’ve already done so many previews ofKirby’s Epic Yarn. There’s the one thatJim wrote, and the video withme and Jimplaying the game, and the write-up thatHamza did last month, andthe impressions thatChad did from E3. It looks like just about everyone on staff who’s played the game has come away happy. I’m sure it will make it to at least one Dtoid staff member’s GOTY list. Your life could be weirder: Sega’s Wack-A-Doodle-Doo

As many of you know from reading my posts about all manner of odd imports, there are a lot of things that come from Japan that I would cut off a limb to get my hands on. Any country that makes beer-flavored candy has obviously got it going on. What you may not know about me, however, is that playing Japanese arcade machines is one of the things I lust after the most, if only to be able to say “That was one of the most perplexing experiences I have ever been through....

Your PSP or DS could soon be banned on airplanes

Here’s the scoop: Somebody tried to kill people on Christmas Day, so everybody else has to get punished for it. That’s the thinking behind the US Transport Security Administration in any case, for it is now considering a ban on all electronic devices brought aboard its planes. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was arrested after failing to ignite an explosive device on Christmas Day, and naturally that good old fashioned American paranoia has been increased tenfold....

You’ll crap your pants while watching this SW: TOR trailer

Whoa. I first saw this newStar Wars: The Old Republictrailer (available after the break) at Electronic Arts’ insane booth — really floor — at Electronic Entertainment Expo. It’s a high-intensity, no-hold-barred CG first-look at what BioWare and LucasArts are bringing to the table with the MMO. It’s impressive, I promise. Of course, the footage isn’t indicative of the game —The Old Republicdoesn’t look that pretty and the action is nowhere near as fluid....
