The Daily Hotness: PS IM FAT

I never thought about it until today, but if a zombie apocalypse does happens and people write letters of love, then there will definitely be people who grief them. There’s humor even in the apocalypse. We checked outDJ Hero, Topher tells you to STFU aboutSuper Street Fighter IV, Game Crazy is closing a bunch of stores, take a look at a gutted PSPgo and more tight stuff happened on 09/29/09....

The Mummy Online is coming to a browser near you

The Mummy? Yes, that one! The one with Abominable Snowmen (I’m calling dibs right here and now) and that weirdly charming guy who makes those oh-so-funny faces. It’s being made into a free-to-play, browser-based MMO calledThe Mummy Online. Bigpoint and Schell Games — who you might recognize thanks to CEO Jesse Schell’smindblowing GDC talk— are working on getting it out during winter 2010. While there are a million and one ways this project could go sour, I am oddly interested in seeing more about it....

The New York – Tokyo Music Festival

On Saturday, I stopped by Central Park to check out the 2006 New York – Tokyo Music Festival. Why? Well, we were told there were gonna be some games for us, most notably,Guitar Hero 2. Sadly, because of some legal issues,GH2was not gonna be playable. Instead, they just showed a trailer. They did, however, have a few playable titles and some pretty unique entertainment. Take a look at how the day went....

The Question: So what do you think of L.A. Noire?

[Every Friday, Destructoid will pose topical a question to the community. Answer it if you want!] We’ve got a pretty easy question this week —L.A. Noire, yay or nay? The game released in North America this Tuesday, and in Britain today. Many of you have had your hands on it, so what do you reckon? You all know what I thought if you’ve read theDestructoid review. I called it “a testament to the possibility of bringing dark, adult, mature games to the mainstream market,” and stated that it’s “guaranteed to be a classic for years to come....

The Red Star hits PSN

Much time on our flagship podcast, Podtoid, has been devoted to a weird man love forThe Red Star, a bananas side-scrolling schmup set in a dystopian universe. It was released in 2007 for the PS2, but as many of our listeners know, it has launched as a PSP downloadable. Earlier last afternoon XS Games announced its arrival on PSN, and made time to tease that an iPhone version is slated to hit later this year....

This game is called Fire Nuclear Crocodile Killer

With a name likeFire Nuclear Crocodile Killer, do you even need my recommendation to go on? It’s a puzzle-centric platformer coming to us from Nifflas, who also lovingly crafted such awesome independent games asWithin a Deep Forest,Knytt, and most recently,Saira. Remember the oh-so-satisfying throwing mechanic inSuper Mario Bros. 2? There’s a lot of that inFiNCK. Remember those dreadful bombs you had to use to destroy otherwise impassable barriers? Those are here too; thankfully, the implementation is far better....

THQ signs multi-year Warhammer 40,000 license deal

THQ has announced that it’s keeping hold of theWarhammer 40,000game license, having inked a deal with Games Workshop this week. Hardly surprising, considering THQ’s had that license since the dawn of time, and published the critically acclaimedDawn of Warseries as a result. The deal has been signed while THQ and Relic work on a third-person action game,Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. EssentiallyGears of Warwithout a cover system and featuring one of the coolest sci-fi settings around, it’s looking pretty damn good....

Too Human finished … may God have mercy on us all

It appears as ifToo Human‘s long and painful development has finally been put to rest and, presumably, Denis Dyack can go back on his meds again. That’s right,Too Humanis goldand ready to go. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the (not very enjoyable)Too Humandemo has reached 900,000 downloads on Xbox Live. Helped in no small part, I’m sure, to Dyack’s online bear baiting and perpetual tantrums during the game’s development. Who needs to make a good game when controversy sells even better than quality?...

Top ten videogames that don’t star a Ben Affleck-type guy

Last week, Chad Concelmo told you all about all thestubbly, brown-hairedgame protagonists that have glutted the gaming scene of late, and how we could use a few less of them. We’ve got nothing against stubbly Caucasian males, of course. Radical cartoon characters with attitude may have owned the gaming scene in the 8-bit and 16-bit eras, but after the CD-ROM came along with its capacity for voice acting and detailed cut scenes, it was time for “Hollywood leading men” to take over games as well....

Totally safe for work: Tony Hawk: RIDE ‘Love Story’

This latest trailer forTony Hawk: RIDEdoesn’t show a lick of gameplay, but at least it’s both cute and informative. Here I was this whole time thinking that the folks and Robomodo worked hard alongside skate-legend Tony Hawk to develop a skateboarding peripheral that would change how play these types of games forever. I pictured hours of pitch meetings, tireless iterations on concepts and designs. I pictured intense negotiations and number-crunching just to get the skateboard peripheral to a price relatively workable for the general public....

Two hours of gaming = doing a line of coke

An absurd little article has been spewed up by the Lancashire Evening Post, where two hours of videogame playing has been directly compared to doing a line of cocaine. The story claims that a young boy was “tormented” by his crippling game addiction and that children around the world are being destroyed by evil videogames. Another day, another “journalist” trying to terrify his readers. “Young addicts are skipping meals, playing truant from school and are even stealing money from their parents to buy the latest games,” claims the report, doing itsutmostto make games sound like drugs....

Two Laras, lots of tombs, one PSP

Does anyone else remember when they played the originalTomb Raiderand you would stand in a corner so the camera would glitch and you could stare at Lara’strianglesbreasts? No? No one? Come on, I was a 13-year-old boy, cut me some slack. Well, now that I’m older I have some higher standards and one of those standards is being able to do that exact same thing while traveling around Europe. Thankfully, Eidos has heard my calls and is going to be releasing aTomb Raiderdouble pack for the PlayStation Portable on April 10....

Valve’s Gabe Newell gives out his Steam password

Why Gabe, why!? Oh, right. Earlier today,we told you aboutSteam Guard, which (optionally) allows you to restrict your Steam account in such a way that short of a thief breaking into your home and logging into your designated computer, your account is safe. Some people aren’t keen on Intel’s hardware-based DRM, and I can appreciate that. If such factors are not a concern to you, however, Steam Guard seems like a worthwhile concept....
