Grand Theftendo to be revealed at GDC

BeforeRetro City Ramapagewas a WiiWare/XBLA/PC game, it wasGrand Theftendo; a NES homebrew remake ofGrand Theft Auto 3, created by industry veteran Brian Provinciano. The lovelyTara Long and I got to meet Brian last year at PAX, and without meaning to, he made me feel sort of inadequate. The guy looks about 16, and he’s already been actively involved with game development for years. He’s basically the Doogie Howser of the game industry....

Guitar Hero: First videogame with 1 mil Facebook fans

I’m not exactly sure why this is an accomplishment, but it is something. Activision says that 1 million Facebook fans demonstrates the “global appeal and passion for the brand that is quickly becoming the next platform for experiencing music and social interaction.” I checked it outthis morning, and it looks to be a pretty active Facebook page. People are suggesting songs and bands, and it looks like Activision is listening....

Hands-on: Rush’n Attack: Ex-Patriot

Rush’n Attack: Ex Patriothas a major problem when it comes to plot. You see, it’s not the late 1980s anymore, so the rampant fear of Soviet Russia doesn’t hang over us like a red curtain. SoRush’n Attack: Ex Patriotaddresses the Russian element by returning to the Tunguska Event in Siberia. Apparently a massive explosion took place in this remote area, which many consider to be from a comet. According toRush’n Attack: Ex Patriot, this 1908 event left behind a rare element that is the source of some major, modern-day problems....

Here are our first screens for Tony Hawk: Shred

Finally, we get a look at whatTony Hawk: Shredis going to loo like. With Ubisoft’s snowboarding franchise head, Shaun White, heading into skateboardingit only makes sense that Activision’s skateboarding king, Tony Hawk, would lend his name to a game that will feature snowboarding. Of course, we knew that before, but now we know that it will be cartoony cell-shaded skateboarding and snowboarding. I must say that these screens look pretty nice, and if you have the board fromTony Hawk: Rideit’ll be great to dust it off, set it up, playShredon it for about ten minutes and then remember why it was collecting dust in the first place and forsake it for a standard controller....

Today’s gaming setup belongs to maxio098ui. First thing you’ll notice is that it’s extremely messy. Hey, if you may still get to all of your games with no issues, then who cares how messy it is. As you can see, he also has a spiffy arcade cabinet. Your collection can never be complete until you have at least one cabinet. More pictures onmaxio098ui’s C-Blog. Sorry for the little delay folks. How would you perfect Xbox Live?

When Xbox Live first came into existence, it was far from perfect. But nowadays, it’s one of the most useful gaming-related services that money can buy. Do you know how XBL was able to evolve from a deformed vending machine into a sexy robot? Because people complained, that’s why! The time has come for you tooffer your thoughtson how you would improve Xbox Live. I for one would like a unified clan system for big multiplayer games such asGears of WarorHalo 3....

[It’s time for anotherMonthly Musing— the monthly community blog theme that provides readers with a chance to get their articles and discussions printed on the frontpage. — CTZ] On a beautiful day, in spite of many glaring issues as a human being, I strolled into my local GameStop. Indie Nation #37: Cottage of Doom

WithLeft 4 Deadless than a month away, and my “Top Ten Most Badass Zombie Games” list still a glimmer in my eye, I thought it’d be worth mentioning one of the coolest zombie-related indie games in recent memory. Cottage of Doom, winner of TIGSource’s B-Game Competition, is one part shooter, one part tower defense, and one part survival horror. It is, in other words, totally addictive and awesome. you’re able to hit the jump for my thoughts on the game, but if the concept of defending an isolated cottage from a zombie attack by barricading doors and windows and blasting any zombie who gets close with a shotgun isn’t enough to make you download the game of your own volition, there’s nothing I can really do to help you....
