Target giving $10 gift card with Final Fantasy XIII

Target has a really good deal for RPG nerds. I’m going to take them up on this first deal. Starting March 9th at 8 a.m, buyFinal Fantasy XIIIfor either the Xbox 360 or PS3 and receive a $10 Target gift card. What I’d do is buy some of their yummy snack pretzels. The buffalo wing ones were the best, but I think they no longer carry them. Go for the honey mustard, if not....

Tekken soundtracks now available on iTunes

Where are my game music nerds at? I’m definitely among those ranks, and have lately changed my status tobudget-conscious game music nerd. Thankfully, the latest releases from Namco Bandai work for me. TheTekkenseries has some great music that has plenty of stand-alone power. In other words, you can rock this stuff out of context and still enjoy it. The North American iTunes Store has just seen the addition of both the soundtracks forTekken 6andTekken 2....

TGS 2007: New Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles trailer and details

The newest trailer forRE:UCshows Chris and Jill preparing to jump into a new adventure. Hopefully, this turns out to me more than just a cinematic and is a new level. The trailer then goes on to show scenes and characters fromResident Evil 0, 1and3. Oddly enough, no mention of anything fromResident Evil 2yet again. The trailer also goes on to show a Tyrant, Nemesis and good old Albert Wesker. All in all, this got me interested in the game again....

The crowd goes wild: Holdable maps shown in Minecraft

This image is bound to make many of you very happy. Minecraftdesigner Markus “Notch” Persson released it earlier today, along with this tweet: “Any resemblance to anything at all is coincidental.” Well, that’s reassuring. Thankfully, he provided more detailin a blog poston mapping. Maps are of specific areas, so the location where you craft one will serve as the center of that individual map. This functionality will be integrated into multiplayer as well, in case you were wondering....

The Dark Spire: new screens and music samples

Remember our preview ofThe Dark Spire? We said it was pretty badass in a retro, ball-busting way. Since then I’ve spent a lot more time with the dungeon crawling RPG, and have died a lot more times, too. Seriously, you have no idea. Atlus sends along some new screenshots that show the difference between the “Classic” and “Modern” game modes ofThe Dark Spire. As we’ve said before, you can change the visual modes on the fly, with the Classic mode resembling the wire-framed games of old....

There is no Santa Claus (at least not when it comes to free VC games) (update)

There is no Santa Claus, kids. Go cry and tell your mom she’s a liar. It was inevitable you would anyway, so we may as well get it out of the way early, yeah? Kotakuposted the news this morning that the rumor about free VC games on Christmas Day was just that — a rumor. I’m not sure who actually thought Nintendo might be so generous, but it seems whoever was convinced on this one is about to be disappointed....

This is what happens when you splice classic old-school games together

While it’s alreadybeen written aboutin the community blogs,ROM CHECK FAILis just too damn cool to ignore on the front page. The more of you that play thisfree indie game, the better. The game itself is presented much like the zanyWarioWareseries, with the controls and rules ofROM CHECK FAILmimicking the 8-bit game that your character originally belonged to. For example, when you play as Pac-Man, you may’t destroy the enemies until you get a power pellet....

Treasure is hiring for their new 3D shooter

I love Treasure, so I’m excited to hear that they’re working on a new 3D shooter. They let they cat out of the bag on their Japaneserecruiting webpage. A listing is asking for programmers to work on a new “3D action shooting game” project. All kinds of questions spring to mind. What system? They just finished upSin & Punishmentfor the Wii, so I’m hoping they’ll want to branch out and release something even more sexy for the PS3 and Xbox 360....
