Here’s an exclusive look at theCave Storysprites as they’ll appear inCave Story 3D. This optional display of the game wasrevealed a few days ago, but this is the first time it’s been shown to the outside world. Check out a full sized version of the image above, and a comparison between the Wii and 3DS versions of the game, in the gallery below. We also have some clarification on how much of the game will be available in sprite form, and why the sprites from theWiiWare versionof the game won’t be making the jump to the 3DS....

In recent times, there’s been a lot of commotion about legitimate gamesbeing ripped offand put up for sale on the App Store by vile fiends. I’m happy to report another pleasing conclusion to one such case. iCoder’s counterfeitLugaruhas been removed from the Mac App Store. “We’re not sure who took it down, or what will happen to the customers who were tricked into buying the fake copy, or the money they paid for it,” writes Jeffrey Rosen on theWolfire Games Blog....

I used to lament living in Texas as a fan of the games industry, but in recent years the gaming presence in Austin, TX has grown at a staggering pace. Long a hotbed of MMO development, the city is beginning to attract developers of all stripes who resonate with the independent vibe that the city has always promoted. While nowhere near the size of the likes of E3 or PAX, Austin still plays host to some impressive events on a yearly basis....

I thought so. Nintendo hasjust strucka third-party licensing agreement withFonix Speech Inc.to allow Wii game developers to integrate the company’s voice recognition technology into future titles. The company specializes in speech interface software for all manner of electronic devices, from cell phones to videogame systems, and the deal allows developers use of both its Voiceln Game Edition and Voiceln Karaoke Edition from this point on....

The rumor that Freddy Krueger (from theNightmare on Elm Streetfilms) and Jason Voorhees (from theFriday the 13thmovies) are both headed to the latestMortal Kombathas been floating aroundfor a while now. Having those two blood loving, grody bastards in a series that first made a name for itself with the word “Fatality” makes perfect sense. The idea makes even more sense to me now that I’ve seen Freddy’s official appearance in the game....

Independence Daythe videogame: awful, just awful. Independence day … the day: full of blinding fireworks, painfully loud noises, and possibly some tasty grilled food. Sony Online Entertainment has opened their G.I.R.L. game design scholarship up and is now accepting applications. The fourth annual Gamers In Real Life scholarship will award the winner a $10,000 toward tuition and other educational expenses and a paid internship of up to 10 weeks at one of SOE’s development studios. This could be a huge first step toward getting into game design, let alone a huge chunk out of tuition costs....

I love me some Batman, but my favorite era of Batman lore is the Arkham Asylum time — an even darker, grittier glimpse of what Gotham City usually looks like. Of course, when the game wasdelayedI was pretty bummed about it, but we know it’s still coming, and that’s better than not coming at all, yes? A few more new (old) games have made their way to Games on Demand service this morning. According toMajor Nelson, EA Visceral’s mining spaceship simulatorDead Spaceand Codemaster’sDiRThave joined the ranks of the other old titles on Microsoft’s console-side digital distribution service. Dead Spaceis being sold for 20 bucks.DiRTon the other hand, is priced at 30 bucks. Both digital videogames aren’t available in Japan for whatever reason and weigh in at a healthy 6 GB respectively....
