The PlayStation 3 is a failure … not my words!

Okay, many editors in the world of videogame journalism, myself included, have made fun of Sony and its handling of the PS3. As harsh as we may be, one thing we tend not to do is go as far as to say that the PlayStation 3 is a failure, especially this early in the current generation. One man, however, has thrown courtesy out of the window and asks,in his new book:Why Did the PS3 Fail?...

These Pure videos are full of pure off-road racing sexiness

I must not have been paying attention whenBlack Rock Studio‘sPurewas announced for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, because the video interview above has me all hot and bothered for some extreme off-road racing action. In the video,Puredirector Jason Avent talks about the ins and the outs of the game’s trick system, what we can expect from the multiplayer (16-player online), and everything in between.Generally speaking, I strongly dislike snowboarding games, but theSSXseries proved to be a huge exception for me....

THQ gets dirty with ‘unpredictable’ off-road racing title, BAJA

It’s times like this that I wish I still worked for a videogame retailer, if only to stand around waiting for a customer to ask about THQ’s new off-road racer, “Bah-jah.” It’s going to happen, and I’m not going to be there, but mark my words … Developed by 2XL Games (which employs founding members of the popularMX vs. ATVfranchise),BAJAwill feature more than 100 square miles of tough, ‘unpredictable’ terrain that players will traverse using 40 different Trophy Trucks, 4x4s and buggies....

Trademarks point to possible Alpha Centauri revival

Could the beloved sci-fi strategy title be making a comeback? Trademarks forAlpha Centauriregistered earlier this month by Electronic Arts have caused such speculation. Thefirst trademarkis for computer game software, whilethe secondis for “entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game.” It’sbeen suggestedthat this could purely result in EA throwingAlpha Centauriup on Origin, rather than coming out with a modern title.

TurboGrafx-16 games coming to PlayStation Store in Europe

There has been some talk in the past about getting TurboGrafx-16 titles on to the PlayStation Store in the west. Japan has had access to them for years now. It seems that they will finally materialize, as the German software ratings board USK has spilled the beans by adding ten games to their database. The games listed are: I guess this is exciting news for some people. All of these games have been available on the Wii for a very long time in both Europe and North America, so it’s hard to get too excited about seeing them again now....

Untapped Potential: The Second Dimension

[It’s time for anotherMonthly Musing— the monthly community blog theme that provides readers with a chance to get their articles and discussions printed on the frontpage. — CTZ] Though I’ve been playing videogames for a fairly long time, I take a bit of pride in the fact that, all things considered, I’m not the stereotypical “old grouch” gaming veteran — after all, we don’t need any more real-life affirmations of the stereotypical overweight, middle-aged, scraggly-bearded specimen, only ever seen clad in a prized (and much-stained)Pac-Manshirt, who spends more time complaining about “the junk they put out these days” than actually, well, playinganything, oldornew....

A couple of uscan’t wait to seesome solid JRPG action heading to the PS3, and Sega’sValkyria Chroniclesappears to be the answer we’re looking for. This tactical RPG looks pretty and producer Akira Nishino certainly thinks we should all be playing it, but one thing he’sless enthusiasticabout is the success of certain so-called “casual” games on another so-called “casual” system. Inan interviewwith a Japanese site, Nishino had this to say about the future of the games industry:...

What Guybrush Threepwood has to say about Destructoid

While Anthony Burch — Destructoid’s own bearded-stud and Internet video star — was doing his thing on the show floor of PAX ’09, he stumbled upon Dominic Armato, the voice of Guybrush Threepwood. Perhaps in the name ofJOURNALISMor simple humor (these things are one in the same, right guys?), Burch asked Armato what he thought about Destructoid. In Threepwood’s voice, Armato replied. Did he say we are the best blog ever?...

Why you can’t play Hulu on your PS3

I watch all my television on my computer by hooking it up to my television through an HDMI cable. At this point there just isn’t any point to watching TV “live” since everyone can get everything over the web whenever they want, and for most of the shows watching it in Hi-Def is beyond unnecessary. Many others might use their PS3s to watch TV. They may have also used Hulu to do this, but no more....
