The Great Gatsby now in convenient videogame form

It’s very possible thatThe Great Gatsbyis my favorite novel of all-time. Certainly, the book is in my top five. Rich in metaphor and characterization, it is also exactly the right length for a lazy Sunday afternoon and I find myself reading the book once or twice a year just because it’s so comfortable. That’s not going to change as a result of a new hidden-object game based on the story. I suppose that’s all well and good but, if I were going to make a game based onGatsby, it would be a dating sim....

The King is all bout dat paper, son

In a blow to quality in just about everything, the Burger King games (as a whole) have officially gonedouble platinum— meaning they’ve sold over 2 million copies combined. Released just a month ago, these promotional titles have sparked some kind of phenomenon … maybe. Russ Klein, president of global marketing at Burger King, said in a statement, “Most video games are considered a blockbuster when they reach the 1 million mark in sales, and this collection has achieved twice that, thanks in part to the great value for the money and convenient holiday stocking stuffer appeal....

The Memory Card .99: The Marston legacy

If someone told me years ago that one of my favorite videogame moments in recent memory would happen in a Rockstar game, I would probably have laughed. And maybe pushed them into a mud puddle. I love Rockstar and think they make really amazing games, but I think of their games as ambitious, technically impressive experiences, not as games containing a large amount of emotionally powerful moments — moments that deeply affect me and change the way I look at videogames....

The truth about Leon Kennedy: My baby’s got a secret

Like many of my comrades in the gaming army, I was psyched to pick up the Wii edition ofResident Evil 4this weekend. Then, I remembered I suck at that game. Hardcore. So Leigh, let’s take a game you were — let’s call it “special” — at before, and add motion control. Pan with the left, aim with the right, squeeze B, tap A, hold Z to run… how’s that workin’ out for you, superstar?...

The Videogame Show What I’ve Done: Citizen Kane

You are not ready for this video. Seriously. You’ll notice the general theme of this week’s episode is a reworking ofan article I wroteseveral months ago, but the message has never been more apt than recently, given what certain videogame “experts” havebeen up toin the mainstream media. This week’s episode simplyhadto be made. Even so, you are not ready for it. Not ready at all.

Two Capcom-published games hit the App Store

Publisher Capcom has two fresh games available on the App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch:Dark Void ZeroandHatchlings. In a recent press release, Capcom celebrated the fact that both titles are using Aurora Feint’s OpenFeint tech, which in a nutshell, allows for leaderboards and an Xbox LIVE-like Achievement system. Dark Void Zerois an Other Ocean Interactive-developed title that started out as an April Fool’s joke. It then became an NES-style 8-bit platformer that was well received by critics when it launched on DSI Ware and PC....

Two hours into Shadow Complex and I’ve…

When it was announced at E3 earlier this year, I had a chance to play a small bit of Chair Entertainment’s and Epic Games’ upcoming Xbox LIVE Arcade title,Shadow Complex. Only a small demo, it wasn’t enough; I wanted more. After seeingDale’s interview with Chair’s Donald Mustard, I knew I couldn’t wait much longer. So after some pestering and a bit of begging, Chair Entertainment passed along to me some preview code ofShadow Complex....

Ubisoft/Free Radical: Please install this patch for Haze that doesn’t exist

Having only played through some of the demo forHaze, I’m not even going to comment on the quality of Free Radical’s PlayStation 3 first-person shooter. I will say that the four-player cooperative drop-in/drop-out sounds really promising. But here’s the problem — that feature doesn’t work. According to a recent thread at the officialUbisoft forums, when you attempt to invite a friend to your game, the game prompts you to download and install a patch....

Video comparison: ‘Reptilia’ in Rock Band and Guitar Hero III

Game Informerhas a video(right click, save link as) showing the song “Reptilia” being played in bothRock BandandGuitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. This comparison offers a quick look at how the two games look head to head. Other than the obvious fact that the notes are shaped differently, the first thing you’ll probably notice is that the note charts (for this song anyway) are fairly similar. While I haven’t had the opportunity to play either game yet, it sounds likeGuitar Hero IIIwill be the more challenging of the two as far as guitar play is concerned....

We need psychic powers to figure out Crytek’s Warface trademark

Last week, Crytekfiled a trademark registrationfor “Warface.” They also filedthis imageof an eye. While the connection of an eye to a face is clear, I’m unsure how “war” fits into the trademark puzzle. I have two ideas: (1) All the soldiers inWarfaceare cyclopean thugs. Or (2) the game revolves around a futuristic gypsy army with advanced knowledge of battle conditions made possible through psychic powers. It’ll be forever before we know for sure, but there’s a chance thatWarfaceis Cytek’s console title....
