We see the week out with a really great little iPhone game today, one that I think you’ll all have fun with. It’s calledZombie Flick, and it ought to give you all the undead-bashing fun that you need. And lord knows you need it! Waves of zombies approach from four directions, and your job is to throw bricks, bananas, frisbees and other items at them, flicking the screen in the right place to score headshots or ricochet attacks....
I can’t believe its April already! This year is going by so fast, it’s insane. As for the title of this post, it has nothing to do with this week’s games. There was an8bitSFconcert last night which had The Glowing Stars, Peelander Z, and Anamanaguchi performing. While most of my friends and members of the DtoidSF community were there, I was stuck at work. I did have a chance to check out a live stream of the concert, however....
It seems From Software has a treat for those playingDark Soulsahead of its September 22 release date in Japan: incrediblypowerful enemies(even in the context of these games). Yup, they’re apparently invading players’ worlds with Black Phantoms. And that’s somehow okay, given who’s doing it. I wonder if other regions will get the same treatment should retailers break street dates here too. I secretly hope so, if only to hear frustrated stories from our in-house reviewer....
I’ve always been a big fan of developers releasing notes or videos talking about how they want to go about handling game production and updates. Not only the methods, but also the reasoning and goals they want to achieve. Riot Games released a couple of videos over this past weekend detailing what will be coming toLeague of Legendsand also rationale behind some of the changes. You may recall if you followed the originalPuzzle Questas closely as I did (note: fanatical obsession is a better description) that the DS version and the XBLA version came out fairly far apart — about six months. I had been playing the DS one for a while but when I saw it was available on XBLA I grabbed it and found that I far favorited the latter version (it ended up being the one I finished, in fact)....

We had a look at a rough version of the Kinect Dashboard today. Actually, they started the session by announcing that Xbox Live would be available in 9 new markets: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Chile, Colombia, South Africa and Greece. So if you live in any of those countries, yay for you. I asked if they were planning to expand into China, but only got the standard PR talk as a result....
Haemimont games, ofTropico 3fame, have turned its attention towards the third person co-op action genre. That genre seems to be growing a lot these days, which definitely isn’t a bad thing. I suggest anyone interested in playing the game to pre-order it so you can get the demo. And once you’re done, go cancel your pre-order and make a GameSpot’s managers life hell. When it comes to super heroes, the most successful are able to recreate the element of the “everyman.” While almost all of us want to be Superman, Batman, Wolverine or, uh, Mr. Fantastic (was that just me?), those guys aren’t necessarily relatable. That’s part of Spider-Man’s charm; Peter Parker taps into the young, awkward teen in all of us. Being able to be him and do his spidery things has always been a fun part of his games, for it lets us get a little closer to that fantasy....

I know we briefly mentionedVanguard: Saga of Heroesin ourrundownof games coming out this week, but when I saw the alert in my inbox today I was suddenly reminded that this game actually is coming out and that I hardly knew about it. Now, I don’t want to brag or anything, but I’m pretty connected with the gaming world — going to events and previews and such — and the amount of press and coverage SOE has been givingVanguardhas been piss poor at best....
