Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin: Left 4 Dead

This week’snew HAWPis one of my favorites, which means you probably won’t like it at all if you areretarded. Most of the HAWP’s we’ve done fall into either two categories: they’re referential just for the sake of being referential but are still enjoyed theplebeians, or they exchange reference for original material and are thus not enjoyed by the selfsameplebeians. This episode is sort of a mixture of the two. Typingplebeianin italics is fun, and not at all hypocritical even though at least two of the past episodes involve poop as a punchline....

Hollywood revelation: ‘most games aren’t movies,’ also The Sims story details

Film has never been a medium that videogames translate particularly well to. I am in complete agreement with Jim Sterlingthat the reason for this(aside from obvious time constraints) is mostly due to a removal of the interactivity that makes a videogame a videogame. So long as a profit comes in, though, most of the people in Hollywood don’t seem to think too much about it. It’s like they see gaming as a conveniently placed field of ideas and pre-established IPs that’s just begging to be reaped in the name of media synergy....

Jonathan Blow, CVG, and the sh*tstorm I caused

Earlier today, weposted a storyabout Jonathan Blow, who stated in an interview that Sony was prone to put more adventurous indie games on the PlayStation Network when compared to Microsoft. A fair comment, I thought. However, Blow was pretty pissed at the post. In fact, he turned out to be quite furious. The fallout from Blow’s indignation has stirred up an online storm already, and since it was partially my fault, I figured I’d talk about it a bit, as well as address Blow’s driving criticism about blogs who use attention-grabbing headlines to generate traffic....

Killer Instinct on the 360?

You guys rememberKiller Instinct, right? You know, Cinder? Glacius? Well it looks like Rare might be coming out of the dark with an Xbox 360 edition. At least that’s what the UK gaming magazine Games TM is saying. If this happens to be true, this could be a great move for Rare. Rare hasn’t exactly had the best lineup so far, starting the 360 out withKameo: Elements of PowerandPerfect Dark Zero....

Late to Rise: Rise to Nightmare digital comic released

Almost a month after it’s lukewarm release, Sega has just released a short comic based on the Kinect action-horror titleRise of Nightmares. Written by Al Ewing, who has worked on comics from the Judge Dredd series as well as the Hulk; and with artist Marc Olivent whose thick shadows and stylized inks give this comic a rough and grimy feel that plays well with the story. The comic tells the tale of Roland Childs, a private detective on his last case, recounting the details of what happened....

Listing suggets Disgaea 3 for PlayStation Vita

A now-removed listing forDisgaea 3 Returnwas spotted on Yahoo! Japan. MoreDisgaea? No kidding! Interestingly, the title was listed as a launch game for PlayStation Vita. Nippon Ichi Software has previouslygone on recordto say that development is happening internally for Sony’s next handheld. I could more or less see NIS’ entire library meshing well with Vita, especially theDisgaeaseries. Throw in some extras, and you’re looking at an easy sell.
