Games of the week for 02/28/10: Ed Gamble edition

As you may have learned yesterday, British comedians Ray Peacock and Ed Gamble had an argument thanks to my posting of a Ray Peacock video in a previous GOTW article. By allowing Ray to go viral, I gave him around 2000 more video views than the lovely Ed. So, now I owe Ed 2000 views. Here is a video of the handsome boy in action, so please do an enjoying of that....

EA DICE took the stage at gamescom earlier today totalk aboutBattlefield: Bad Company 2. Butbeforethey discussed the sequel, the download-onlyBattlefield 1943was brought up for a brief moment. Based on leaderboards for the game alongside the launch server issues caused by too many people trying to play, we knewBattlefield 1943was performing well already. According to its developer, the game has achieved 1 million downloads so far. Impressive! It wasn’t specified if this number was a combined total for both versions of the game, but I assume that it was....

GDC 08: Infinity Ward talks a bit about upcoming Call of Duty 4 maps

Earlier this month, we brought you word that Infinity Ward were actively working on new multiplayer maps forCall of Duty 4. At the time, Infinity Ward’s community manager, Robert Bowling was guarded about details, only teasing fans with the idea. Today, I had a chance to sit down and talk with Robert about the upcoming maps, hoping to get some more detailed information. The bad news — Infinity Ward still aren’t talking specifics....

GDC 11: ‘Good chance’ PC will get the revamped Spelunky

Spelunky‘shigh-def debuton Xbox Live Arcade is highly anticipated. But what about those who supported the original version’s humble beginnings? The gentlemanly scholars at PC Gamer caught up with designer Derek Yu to get some answers on the matter. “There’s a very good chance we’ll see the HD edition ofSpelunkyon PC at some point,” said Yu. They then went on to quote him as responding with the emoticon “;)” — or perhaps he made that face in real life?...

Ghostbusters: The Video Game coming to PSP and PSPgo

Atari have finallycome cleanand announcedGhostbusters: The Video Gamefor the PSP and PSPgo. It will be out this November and will retail for $29.99. It’s going to be in the same style as the Wii version of the game, with the overly cartoony graphics and all. It’s pretty weird that it’s taken this long for the game to come out, especially since it’s been available for all the other major platforms for awhile now....

Give your DS some ‘Style’

No, I’m not talking about your gaudy, bejewelled Metallic Rose monstrosity, but rather the software you’d put in it. It’s fairly safe to say that gamers aren’t the most well rounded people as far as culture goes. Sure, we know our Jaffe from our Sakuguchi, but we’re totally lost on which one is the salad fork. While some of us will always content to be the burger-scarfing, floor-sleeping, t-shirt wearing slob, there are others that aspire to greater heights....

Grasshopper’s new PS3 game could make publisher ‘bankrupt’

Grasshopper is not a studio known for its mainstream smash hit success. The cult developer, responsible for such demented games asNo More HeroesandKiller 7, is working on a brand new PS3 title and, true to form, it’s a financial risk. So much so that publisher Marvelous isa tiny bit worried. “If we do that [game] we might go bankrupt,” laughs Marvelous president Yasuhiro Wada.“We are making it, but if we make everything then it’s a little too risky....

Hands-on and interview with Darkspore

While Ben Perlee was busywriting words aboutDarkspore, I’ve been hustling up this video for you. Oh Ben, you and your written word. So old fashioned. I didn’t get into Darkspore with the same level of depth that Ben did, but I did glean some interesting tidbits of info from Mike Perry, one of the game’s head developers. If you’re not up for word-reading right now, but still want a basic overview ofDarksporeand why it’s so awesome (set to some fantastically nerdy music), this video could be for you....

HAPPY! Taiko no Tatsujin DS sequel’s menu translated

Today is a beautiful day, folks. No only did a newTaiko no Tatsujingame (Taiko no Tatsujin DS 7-tsu no Shima no Daibouken) come out for the DS a few days ago, but thanks to the glory of the internet, I can read the menus in English instead of blindly stabbing at the DS screen with my stylus until something recognizable happens. Happy! I think the guys in the picture above may be almost as thrilled as I am (but I hear Taiko hats have that effect on people....

Hit the lights: First details on Guitar Hero: Metallica emerge

ScoreHerohas the first details on Activision’s upcoming standalone title,Guitar Hero: Metallica, and are you sitting down? It features the music of Metallica. No s**t. Lame sarcasm aside, the package is an obvious mix of content, with a few surprises. For one, the game will feature a new difficulty for drums called “Expert Plus,” which is being designed especially for people with a splitter and two kick pedals. Also on the drum tip, the game will offer up a new mode (or a “cheat” as ScoreHero calls it) in which you’ll be able to play freestyle drums using Metallica drum sounds (which can sound like anything from pots and pans to Civil War cannons, I suppose)....
