See that on the left. That’s Travis Touchdown inhabiting the role of Francis inLeft 4 Dead, as modded byDethKlan. DethKlan doesn’t likeLeft 4 Dead 2, which is stupid, but they make an awesome mod, so they’ll get a pass this time. You can download their workhere. Arguably even more fun is the mod on the right, which turnsTeam Fortress 2‘s Scout into a much sexier, stupider, maladjusted young man. The programmers at MechaWare really went all out on this one, creating aNMH-themed energy drink mod and baseball bat to go along with the Travis skin....

The demo has been described to me as rather beefy. It features several missions — both campaign and side — and allows for a bit of open-world exploration. Also, lightning attacks. After you’re done downloading (watch out, there was a system update recently) and get to playing, jot down your impressions in the comments. I’m eager to read what you guys think about it.

I think a U.S. poll would show even less. Hell, judging from your comments, a Destructoid poll would likely show next to no interest. Japanese gamers don’t seem like they’re feeling a 3D-enabled portable, glasses or no. Well, at least the ones from this poll weren’t feeling it. About one-thousand were polled on Nintendo DS ownership. About 42 percent of these folks were down with the DS, which seems low to me....

Bill Gates, the world’s richest man and leader of Microsoft (the world’s most ubiquitous software vendor),sat down with Dean Takahashiof the Bay Area’s Mercury News, and said some intriguing, and blunt things about his competitors and Microsoft’s strategy. Of particular note was a bit where hefigurativelypatted Nintendo on the head and sent them to their room shortly before drinking a bottle of Jack and smashing it against Sony’s head. At the time of writing, I canseethe demo on Xbox Live, but I keep getting an error message. Either that means too many people are downloading it, or Microsoft has screwed up for everyone as usual. In any case, it’s there, but you might have to be patient.

Rumor has it that this announcement was supposed to happen tomorrow at NYCC, but like most of Capcom fighting game character reveals, this one has been leaked early. Capcom shows a nice level of bipartisanship by including representatives from both the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and A.I.M., as according to these screenshots, both Magneto and M.O.D.O.K. look to be legit contenders inMarvel Vs. Capcom 3. Other details regarding alternate outfits for Spider-Man (including the Iron Spidey and Symbiote Spidey costumes), and the game’s story (some silliness about Doom and Wesker teaming up to take over the Marvel and Capcom universes and awakening Dormammu by accident) are also leaking in....

Here is a nice, solid look at combat inMass Effect 3. It’s humorous to see footage from a game that somewhat falls on the tactical side of the third-person shooter spectrum being cut to look more action-packed. BioWare was nice enough to throw in some gamescom screenshots as well. The one with the Reaper is particularly worth seeing. I’m also fond of the guys with faces on their shoulders. They should probably get that checked out....

Nintendo is very much on top of their game, but that hasn’t stopped some analysts from giving their opinions on how they could do it better. The current tidbit of advice comes from none other than Michael Pachter, whose latest idea to keep the Wii a hot commodity is to drop the price of the console to $199, and drop Wii sports: “The console has a price advantage over the Xbox 360 and PS3 that can be maintained if Nintendo chooses to un-bundle Wii Sports from the console....

Chances are you’ve already heard how the forthcoming Xbox 360 update isn’t goingto play nicelywith “unauthorized storage devices” aka all memory units that aren’t licensed by Microsoft. It’s a bummer considering how expensive the company’s storage devices are, no doubt about it.
