At PAX East today, Hi-Rez studio has unveiled its next title asTribes: Ascend. Powered by Unreal Engine 3, the game is said to be the direct follow-up toTribes 2, which was released in 2001. The game is scheduled for release as a digital download for PC and Xbox 360, with other platforms “currently under consideration.” TheGlobal Agendadeveloper had earlier announced its plan to release a “persistent world” title,Tribes Universe, after purchasing the series in October of last year....

This morning’s report thatViacom was actively looking to sellRock BandandDance Centraldeveloper Harmonixcame as a shock to fans of the franchises. But according to a statement released by the Boston-based dev, things are business as usual. “This morning’s announcement does not affect the ongoing work at the studio as we continue to support our existing franchises,Rock BandandDance Central,” wrote Harmonix’s John Drake on theRock Band forums. “As stated earlier, Viacom is in discussions with several potential buyers and will continue to fully support the business until a sale is completed....

Perhaps you guys can help me out here. I’ve watched this trailer about half a dozen times now and I’m still at a loss to understand what’s so damn wonderful about the “Real Virtuality” engine powering this game. I’ll concede that the character models move pretty well in most situations, which counts for something. Maybe it’s the low resolution at which the video was sent but this just doesn’t strike me as awe-inspiring....

Awesome because if you’re a raving Wii fan, you’re able to show it off mack daddy style with silver cufflinks in the shape of the infamous Wiimote. It’s a lengthy trailer that runs down, well, what Team Bondi’s open-world game is actually like, outside of its character’s facial expressions. The bits and pieces of footageshown so farhaven’t been terribly revealing, but that ends here. Personally, I was afraidL.A. Noirewould be entirely shootouts and mindless action sequences; based on this video, there will be a fair amount of case solving, interrogating, and other detective duties....

Ryan Stevens, one of our favorite tippers, and the whitest guy since Kip Winger, took time out from his busy schedule of listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and ironically commenting on knee-high leg warmers, to send in the above clip. It’s of Ryan (full of himself, ain’t he?) interviewing Lil’ Jon, a “crunk” rapper, more well known as a character on a television show that no longer exists, than for his musical talents....

According toa French retailer,LittleBigPlanetis going to have its own PlayStation 3 bundle, much like the Metal Gear Solid 4 package that is still being offered by Sony. The bundle will consist of a copy ofLBP, a Dualshock 3 controller, an 80 gig hard drive, and some cables. It’s being priced at 399 euros ($580 US) and delivery is scheduled November 5th, this year. Of course, the bundle could be fake, but look at that delicious art on the cover....

Bethesda has posted new media forPrey 2on its blog, and th–wait a minute. It’s only a single screenshot. And, I guess there’s a piece of concept art as well. Worst of all, it’s enough to warrant me writing this very post you are now likely growing agitated over. The concept art of what appears to be a futuristic cityscape is more interesting to me. The screenshot has an alien in a spiffy suit, which tells mePrey 2is going to be quite the departure fromPrey 1....

XGen Studios is collaborating withMachinariumcreator Amanita Design to bring its robot-starring adventure hit to WiiWare. Point-and-click adventure titles on the Wii? Sounds like a plan. In fact, I can seeMachinariumdoing quite well for itself. Super Motherload, a follow-up to a flash game I hadn’t heard of until a few moments ago, is also in XGen’s pipeline as a WiiWare release. From what I’ve seen of the current version — as well as the provided screenshot forSuper Motherload— I’m listening....

It’s all rainbows and sunshine over at Mad Catz HQ. Yesterday, the third-party peripheral and hardware manufacturer announced that another deal with Microsoft is in the books. The two companies recently signed a license agreement that allows Mad Catz to carry on manufacturing and distributing Xbox 360 wireless specialty controllers. In other words, moreRock Bandbasses and other sizeable products with the Mad Catz brand will continue clotting retailer shelves. “This agreement expands our relationship with Microsoft and we look forward to shipping a range of new wireless specialty controllers, the first of which will be our wireless Fender bass guitar forRock Band, later this month,” said Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz via press release....

During theEA press conferenceat E3, Peter Moore revealed thatMadden NFL 10will have an online franchise mode, an announcement that gotMaddenfans everywhere pumped for the upcoming football game. In addition to the previously detailedPro-Tak animation systemandonline cooperative play, the game’s 32-player online franchise is another exciting new feature for the series.
