A few days ago, Sony Online Entertainment announced free-to-play MMO,Free Realms, reached a player base of over two million unique users. According to the press release, the vast majority of the game’s player base is spectacularly young. A whopping 75 percent is composed of kids under the age of 17.Free Realmswas available to play at E3 even though it launched April 28 this year. When Sony announced a premium PlayStation Network subscription calledPlayStation Plusat its E3 press conference yesterday, I balked at the $49.99-a-year fee, since the features that Sony Computer Entertainment of America president & CEO Jack Tretton announced — which didn’t seem all that great anyway — didn’t even include cross-game chat. Now, it seems that party chat may indeed be coming to the PlayStation Network, and the apparent implementation has its pros and cons....

THQ has confirmedduring a conference callthatSaints Rowis being adapted to the big screen. Personally, I’m getting sick of how many games today shoehorn the word “dead” into their titles, but I’ll make an exception here. LikeShadows of Damned,NeverDeadlooks like it understands how to utilize over-the-top horrific violence for the sake of both action and comedy. Having a immortal main character casually complain about having his arm ripped off as he battles hordes of rampaging demons is far from typical, let alone boring....

I kicked off E3 in style, sitting in a fake private jet to check out the opening ofSaints Row: The Third. My thoughts leaving the demonstration consist of believing it to look almost exactly likeSaints Row 2, and believing that to be an incredibly good thing. IndustryGamers revealed todaythat Electronic Arts and Dr Pepper have struck a multimillion-dollar partnership. EA will be advertising Dr Pepper products in their games starting withThe Sims 3in early 2010. The partnership will see codes appearing on Dr Pepper products that will unlock special content in games, such as beach party items for Sims 3. It’s really impressive to me that this deal was with Dr Pepper and not Coke or Pepsi, two companies that usually get these kinds of deals....

Well, not exactly a comic book — a graphic novel and a digital comic available for all those digital things starting with an lowercase “i” and an uppercase “P.” The “Digicomics” will be called “Tales of the Wasteland,” and there will be six of them — penned by Peter David and illustrated by Claudio Sciarrone — each eight pages long....

I remember sitting on a couch with Nick Chester, both of us half buzzed from wine and tired from the day, watching game play of Tecmo’sQuantum Theoryin Tokyo.
