Altair and Ezio are different says latest dev diary

Assassin’s Creedcover boys Ezio and Altair may dress the same and share similar mannerisms, but we’re told that the two aretotallydifferent people. For example, Ezio has two wrist-strapped knives while Altair doesn’t. Also, Ezio likes to have fun, unlike Altair, who was a major bummer at our Halloween party last weekend with all his moping about being stuck in a sinister building all day long. In the latest developer commentary forAssassin’s Creed II— available above, of course — the people behind the game attempt to tell us that Ezio and Altair are different sorts of people....

Asteroids and astronauts make up today’s shirt Woot

It seems like 2009 is all aboutAsteroidsall of a sudden. Just last week we found out that there’s going to be anAsteroidsmovie.Seriously. We even got a glimpse ofwhat the script couldlook like! Anyway, tonight’s shirt Wootmashes up the classic game with some real astronauts. The space shuttle is getting destroyed by the asteroids, which isn’t really surprising if you think about it. I’m pretty sure the turning radius to pew pew pew ratio is horrible on a ship that big....

B-DASH gets the stop-motion Lego treatment

Have you heard the song “B-DASH” by Japanese groupTongari Kids? It’s essentially a Mario Bros. themed Japanese nerdcore tune, and it’s catchy as hell. Found on Japan’sNico Nico Douga, the above video uses stop motion techniques and Legos to retell the story in the “B-DASH” lyrics. For those not up on their Japanese, many of the songs lines talk about an unfortunate Mario situation and end with the tag line “B-DASH,” referring to dashing with the “B” button inSuper Mario Bros....

Batman: Arkham Asylum follow-up to feature Two-Face?

Zipped lips don’t reveal secrets, or much at all for that matter (because of the whole “zipped” thing), so we haven’t had much to report on theBatman: Arkham Asylumsequelfront. But it appears as if the smallest of details did escape during the C2E2 comic book convention in Chicago. At a panel,Batman: The Animated Seriesvoice actor Kevin Conroy supposedly let it slip that Two-Face will be in the next game. He backpedaled on the comment immediately, explaining that the game has a “complicated cast,” but we’re no fools, sir!...

Battle system explained: Hexyz Force walkthrough video

I wish that my upcoming review could just feature this video in place of the game’s battle system explanation. It really does a good job of telling you howHexyz Force‘s gameplay aspects work in a quick, efficient matter. It’s not the most complex battle system out there, but it’ll definitely keep you working to make sure that youre using correctly affiliated attacks and weapons. And let’s face it: An RPG that you can mindlessly attack in is boring....

Battle: Los Angeles game tie-in goes official

Scoreanother onefor ratings boards — Konami and Saber Interactive are indeed bringing the masses a videogame adaptation ofBattle: Los Angeles. It’s set for the lovely digital distribution trio of PlayStation Network, Steam, and Xbox Live Arcade. The movie itself looks rather promising, but I’m not entirely sure about this game. Licensedanda budget first-person shooter? Not a confidence-inspiring combination for most of us. The press release describes going “through a single-player campaign that mirrors the upcoming feature film....

CES 2010: This guy made it all worth it for me

I love the Consumer Electronics Show, but it’s a bitch sometimes. Today was one of those times. The floor was packed, people were stinky and gross, and you could barely move without running into someone else. On top of that, getting lost was the norm, and I’m doing this all on three hours of sleep. Again, I love this event, but today was really bumming me out. Then came this guy....

Co-creator of Aether and Gish creates Meatboy, hilarity ensues

Edmund McMillen fascinates me. The last time we checked in with his work waswhen he releasedAether— a project that was dubbed “personal” and explored the concepts of childhood and escapism. This time around, McMillen created a game with a great deal of levity. It’s calledMeatboy, and it rocks. I wanted to go on and explain the game, but McMillen does it much better than I would: Meet Meat Boy. He’s the protagonist of his self-titled debut, irreverently named Meat Boy, a more traditional “hardcore” platformer in the same vein as Ghost and Goblins, Mega Man and N+....
