David Braben wants a Metacritic for game reviewers

Say what you will about Metacritic, it has become a powerful force in the industry. Publishers decide the future of franchises with it, gamers fret over their favorite title’s averages. I think it’s all a bit silly and has a little bittoomuch power. So what should we do? We should port that silliness over to the game reviewers themselves! “Most reviewers are excellent at what they do, and it is a very hard job with, frankly, little glory,”said Frontier Developments’ David Braben....

Today’s episode of the Destructoid show isn’t as long as the previous few have been. And yet, we somehow managed to pack about 2 days worth of news into 13 minutes and 49 seconds. I start off by confessingmy loveforSEGA, while Holmes swoons over the sexy newOkamiden trailersand the expansion ofGhost Trickto iPhone, but not before peer pressuring you into buying the newHumble Indie Bundle. Destructoid review: Moon

From the moment you rip off that plastic wrap, pop open Nintendo’s too-big case, and push the cartridge into the DS slot, you’ll see that Renegade Kid’s latest titleMoonis a technical achievement. The 60 frames per second first-person game play action is a selling point for any just about any game on any console, but it’s remarkable for a shooter on the Nintendo DS. Renegade Kid proved that they have the talent and fresh ideas with their last work,Dementium: The Ward....

Destructoid review: TrackMania DS

How long has it been since you’ve justracedin a racing game? And I’m not talking about precise racing lines in the latest ultra-realistic sim, or throwing out banana peels from your cart in a party game. I’m talking about good ol’ fast-as-you-can racing to beat your time and your opponents, with your only obstacle being the track that stretches out ahead of you. TrackMania DSis like that. It’s racing in its most pure and simple form: go fast, beat your time, take your gold medal....

So when we were approached (read: threatened) by Massive Entertainment, and asked if we wanted to play a friendly (read: serious business) game of their upcoming PC real-time strategy title,World In Conflict, you know we couldn’t resist. Tomorrow morning, Nex and I will be going head-to-head with Massive’s Emma Jones and Henrik “Vextor” Johansson, battling it out online using the demo version ofWorld in Conflict....

Doctor Who episodic games announced

The new season ofDoctor Whohas started over in the UK, with Matt Smith taking on the role of the time-traveling hero. Today, the BBC announced that a series of four episodic games based on the show calledDoctor Who Adventureswill be released. Billed as additional episodes for the series, the narrative of the four games will tie in with the events of the show. I’m a huge fan ofDoctor Whoand it’s nice to see the revival get some games of its own, as titles produced with the license thus far have been less than spectacular....

Driver: San Francisco PC delayed, Mac still in the works

Not only will PC gamersnotbe getting a demoforDriver: San Francisco, but the game has been slightly delayed, as well. Publisher Ubisoft tellsBlue’s Newsthat the out-of-body racing experience will be released on September 27. This is almost a month after the release of the console versions, which hit shelves on August 30. Surprisingly, it wasn’t a typo on the initial fact sheet Ubisoft gave us for the title, and a Mac version is still being planned with a “to be determined” release date....

Drug-free trippin’ with Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition

Woah, man. I had no idea how freaky and different upcoming Xbox Live Arcade gameZeno Clash: Ultimate Editionwas until I saw it for myself last week. And honestly, I had no idea how interesting and deep this first-person brawler was, either. I knew what the general concept was, but I was not aware of the bizarre story or the outlandish creatures, both of which are right up my alley. I went from not knowing much aboutZeno Clashto fully looking forward to its April release....

Dungeons and Dragons Online: Mod 8 detailed

The biggest gripe for non-traditional players entering into the realm ofDungeons and Dragons Onlineis how daunting the rule system can be. Luckily, Turbine is actively attempting to fix that with their newest mod, “Mod 8.” Mod 8 has a combination of accessibility for newcomers and has rewards and challenges for those deeply rooted in the game....

E3 10: Hands-on Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll

It seems that Koei Tecmo’s main goal this year was to remind us of games that had seemingly disappeared off the face of the Earth. LikeWarriors: Legends of Troy,Trinity: Souls of Zill O’llwas only shown in asset form at last year’s E3, then fell off the radar. Now, likeLegends of Troy, it has returned to E3 with a playable demo.
