First 4 Figures’ Dark Link is menacing

First 4 Figures continues the tradition of putting out obscenely cool videogame statues that most of us can’t possibly justify purchasing with its new Dark Link statue. There are actually two separate versions of this bad boy, both of which are releasing during the third quarter of this year. There’s thebase model, which will have a run of 2,500 units and cost $169.99, and then there’s theexclusive version. It’s $20 more, limited to 500 units, and glows....

First Nintendo 3DS firmware update: A 3D music video?!

Not a web browser. Not the cool 3DS shop stuff we’ve been hearing about. None of that. Instead, with the very first Nintendo 3DS firmware update for Japan we get a…3D music video? I updated my firmware tonight and found that an extra icon was added to my line-up. Clicking it showed the above video, a performance of the famous “Super Mario Bros theme,” by Koji Kondo. you’re able to’t see the 3D in it, but it’s very cheesy, with the band members looking like they’re popping out of a kids pop-up book....

New York Comic Conis already the place to be if you have the hots for toys and comics — but what about games? This year not only will feature Penny Arcade celebs Gabe and Tycho as the featured guests of honor, but also is boasting a pretty decent exhibitors list when it comes to gaming (hit the jump to see it). I wonder if Comic Con will continue to amp their gaming presence … there were definitely more game-related exhibitors at San Diego Comic Con last year....

Game store burglars ask cops for a ride home

In Chicago, five teens were arrested for breaking into a video game store. Two of the five might have escaped successfully if they were smart enough to avoid the cops, but instead they asked the officers for a ride home. A local resident heard glass breaking at a local videogame store and phoned the Chicago police, who responded and managed to find a shattered glass window and three burglars. The three ran; police managed to capture one, but the other two escaped....

A number of UK retailers may beskeptical of the PSPgo, but American retailer GameStop isgetting wet at the prospectof selling Sony’s latest attempt to dominate handheld gaming. Despite the PSPgo’s status as a download-only platform, Gamestop still believes that the new PlayStation Portable will be worth stocking. “On the PSP Go, we’re excited to be carrying that for a couple reasons,” beams Tony Bartel, EVP of Merchandising and Marketing. “We do participate in the downstream revenue via … points cards, and the good news is we hold a dominant market position in that category as it relates to digital downloads....

GameStop wants your Wii Balance Boards

The biggest games retailer in North America seems to think that people will desire the Wii Balance Board in the near future. It’s the only explanation I have for an offer GameStop recently sent out to customers via e-mail because the far less interesting alternative is that they just have a ton of copies ofWii Fitwithout the accompanying accessory. So, what’s GameStop offering up? $40 in trade credit. That seems to be close to the going rate on eBay....

GC 09: Alpha Protocol’s Michael Thornton can do things

Alpha Protocol’sMichael Thornton is like Daniel Craig’s Bond character, minus the impressiveribletsand beautiful pectorals. Thornton prepares in beautiful safehouses, blends into hostile environments and can rock terrorists when the situation calls for it. He’s even a bit of a ladies man, or at least, a sharp dresser. Protocolis being shown in Cologne and, naturally, Sega of America has released some fresh screenshots to accompany any coverage. Aside from the ultra-thrilling finalized logo, you’ll notice a variety of scenes plucked from what we’ve mentioned above, as well as two shots showing off a menu and the dialogue system....

GC 09: You want to watch this Fable III trailer

To the surprise of nearly none, LionheadrevealedFable IIItoday at gamescom. Designer Peter Molyneux, as he usually does, made many bold statements about the game. But talk, as they say, is cheap. So it’s a good thing they already have a trailer prepared forFable III, which can you see after the jump. GC 10: Talking retro with Daedalic

Growing up in the hands ofLoomandDay of the Tentacle, my heart always beats higher whenever I hear about a new point and click adventure coming out. One could say that Daedalic is like a dinosaur with lasers coming out of it’s mouth. They are one of the few companies to focus only on adventure games like the ones we learned to love as kids.
