WoW having some issues, characters gone missing

In the past 24 hoursit seems thatWorld of Warcraft has been having a few hiccups. Hiccups as in players can’t log in to play and now that some of them can their characters aren’t there anymore. TheWoWforumsare full of complaints from people who can’t get past the authentication screen and a fix doesn’t seem to have occurred yet. It’s sad, but I’m pretty sure if this goes on for too long a nation wide riot will start....

Wowza: Rockstar’s 4-minute Red Dead Redemption trailer

Excuse the lame use of “wowza,” but my brain is mush right now — you’ll understand as soon as you watch this 4-minute gameplay trailer forRed Dead Redemption. If you haven’t been paying much attention to this open-world game from Rockstar, now is the ideal time to remedy the situation. There’s such an information overload present in the video, I can hardly decide what to talk about. I think what’s most exciting to me is how we’ll have the choice to be a real saint or bastard in this great western setting....

X’07: Hunting down Canadian videogame bloggers

Forgive me Niero for saying this, but … there is only one thing I hate about writing for Destructoid and that is the fact that I am the one and only writer fromCanada. It’s incredibly lonely up here when I have no one to hang out with from the blogging world. Do you know I have to pin down random strangers at work just so I can talk about things likeBioShockandHeroes of Mana?...

Zapper support was planned for the original Zelda

I’ve been thinking a lot about Nintendo, and their long history of introducing a new controller, peripheral, or other device, only to completely abandon it a few months later. They’ve been doing this since the NES days, when the R.O.B. and the NES Zapper hit the scene in a big way at launch and were barely utilized for anything new after that. To hear that Nintendo once considered integrating the Zapper intoLegend of Zelda‘s gameplay gives me some faith that they don’t always intend to go about things that way....

16-year-old boy murders mother over PlayStation argument

When you’ve been a naughty little bastard and find yourself punished with a videogame ban, what’s the appropriate response? Suck it up and do your time, or commit matricide? If you go with the former, you’re not 16-year-old Kendall Anderson. The boy had his PlayStation system confiscated as punishment for an undisclosed trespass and got into an argument with his mother, Rashida. He did what any ordinary lunatic would do and resolved to kill her in her sleep with a hammer....

A Guide To Recognizing Your Gamers – Chapter 2

Welcome, my friends, to the second part of Destructoid’songoing field guideto the anthropology of the various modern gamer sub-species. Before we go on with this week’s study, I must confess that only one of the two breeds I had planned to detail in this chapter has actually made it in. However, this is purely down to the fact that upon starting, I found that said strain provided me with more material than I had originally banked upon, and so a cut had to be made in the interests of brevity....

He did it! Isaiah “Triforce” Johnson, thedetermined gamerwho started camping out for the 3DS launch at Best Buy’s Union Square location back on Monday, bought the first 3DS sold in the United States. How crummy would it have been if the poor guy waited in line for days anddidn’tget the first US handheld? Yeah, that’d be a real downer. But, he was successful — in more ways than one. Aliens: Infestation is Metroid with Xenomorphs OH GOD!

SEGA’s booth was fairly lavish this year, with huge signs, flashy lights, ladies dressed like Colonial Marines, and … one fairly quiet man, wandering around with a DS. He was completely nondescript, fairly easy to miss, andcouldin fact have looked like a regular PAX attendee. What he held in his hands, however, wasAliens: Infestation. I’m rather angry that the game was so hard to find, to the point where I’d have totally missed it had Max Scoville not excitedly called me over while miming a “second mouth” with his hand....
