E3 10: Hydrophobia still exists, looks as neat as ever

Fact: I’m easily impressed by videogame physics. Remember that time when a plane crashed into a tunnel inBioShock, and then water started spraying everywhere?I do! In the same vein,Hydrophobiacontinues to draw me in with its heavy emphasis on water looking and flowing like it ought to. On top of a few images, a new trailer for the survival action game has arrived. I can’t say I’m entirely sold on the game yet, but it’s certainly getting close to that point....

According to reports, most of Europe will get the game earlier on November 25, and it’ll launch in Britain on November 26. Along with the release date, there’s a new trailer above. Epic: It’s not the size that counts (five minute-long GoW2 confirmed)

First it was Gearboxtelling us not to focuson the length of a game, and now Epic’s Mike Capps has chimed in withsimilar sentiments. Suggesting that there is an “arms race” happening in the industry, Capps states that development focuses too heavily on how big a game is, rather than how fun it is. “Games do not compete in fun experiences,” claimed Capps. “They compete in the number of weapons, and unfortunately it’s easy for someone to compare this game to that game, ‘this game has 10 multiplayer levels but this one has 29....

ESRB rates Rise of Nightmares, makes it sound hilarious

SEGA’sRise of Nightmareswas announced a while ago, but we know very little about the title. Until now, that is! Some details have started to hit the ‘net, courtesy of the ESRB. As always, America’s ratings board has an entertaining little write-up. Rise of Nightmarescasts players in the role of a tourist who must rescue his girlfriend from a mad scientist. Chainsaws, brass knuckles, and all manner of other brutal weaponry is employed against “zombie-like” creatures and female monsters in “revealing outfits....

Final Fantasy XIII screens get their Odin on

Some newFinal Fantasy XIIIscreens havehit the net, showing off more of Odin, the obligatory summon that finds his way into mostFFgames worth their salt. Like all summons in the game, Odin will be controlled either as a player character, or as a “Gestalt,” where he’ll transform into some sort of vehicle for one of the characters. Odin’s Gestalt mode allows Lightning to ride his horse. Snazzy! As we’ve come to expect fromFinal Fantasy XIIIscreens, the new images are quite gorgeous and make the battles look like some of the best combat yet seen in the RPG series....

First footage of LEGO Rock Band is here

When I heard thatMTV Multiplayerhad posted the first footage ofLEGO Rock Bandtoday, I’ll admit I rushed over to see it — I’ve been curious for a while if the game was something I was actually going to want or not. After seeing the video, I think I’ve more or less decided I’m going to pass: not because it doesn’t look good, but because it’s just got more of a “for kids” feel than I even expected (and I already expected that)....

First footage of Wii F-Zer — wait, no, it’s just Speed Racer on the Wii

Unfortunately, this is not the first footage of anupcomingF-Zerotitle for the Wii. Actually, let me go ahead and rephrase that: Fortunately, this is not the first footage of an upcomingF-Zerotitle for the Wii. What you’re looking at is MTV Multiplayer’s exclusive gameplay footage of Sidhe Interactive’sSpeed Racertitle for the Wii, available on May 6 to coincide with the film’s release. So where do we start with this? Well, I think they said it best on theMTV Multiplayer blog: “take a look atSpeed Raceryourself and see what you think of the very first gameplay video....

Free App of the Day: Pocket Legends

I get the distinct feeling that as a “teh hurrdcore gam@rz”, I’m not supposed to enjoy stuff like this, but screw you.Pocket Legendsis a free-to-play MMO on bothiPhoneandAndroid, but unlike most “freemium” games, it’s pretty darn good. Decent graphics, fun “acquisition of power” hack n’ slash gameplay, and a surprisingly robust world makesPocket Legendsworth dipping into. There’s plenty of content for those who don’t want to spend money, but the paid stuff is there for anybody who seriously gets into it....

Free App of the Day: Zombie Shock

We’ve had some really good Free Apps lately, and here’s another absolute top-notch game that you’re going to have to make a point of downloading. It’s calledZombie Shockand I’d like to thank Destructoid reader Sagatron for sending it in. Zombie Shockis a game in which players are chased by (obviously) zombies. The character runs on his own, but you can move him around the screen to avoid encroaching zombie attackers. The aim of the game is very simple — shoot all the zombies before they tear you apart....
