E3 08: Audio of roundtable with SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton

Sony was kind enough to invite us to a small roundtable discussion with Sony Computer Entertainment of America President and CEO, Jack Tretton. The guy, apparently, is pretty important. Following yesterday’s press conference — which was hosted by Tretton — it stands to reason that the press had a few questions. Tretton was pretty forthcoming and candid in the laid back roundtable. Some highlights include: Crank up your speakers anddownload the entire sessiona-la-podcast from our media server....

E3: Hands-on with Wii U and Battle Mii

I had some time to stop by Nintendo’s booth during E3 yesterday and get up to the Wii U special area of awesome hands-on fun times.Battle Miiwas the first game I tried out and my first reaction to the Wii U controller was that the gyroscopic controls are deadly accurate. So much more impressive than the 3DS gyro-controls, in fact. InBattle Mii,I was playing on the Wii U controller as a Mii piloting a miniature version of Samus Aran’s spaceship....

Final Fantasy XIII-2 theme song now up on iTunes

I’m a sucker for the sappy Final Fantasy theme songs. I’ve been hooked sinceFinal Fantasy VIII’s “Eyes On Me.” If you’re not allergic to female pop ballads with expensive string arrangements,Final Fantasy XIII-2theme song“New World” by Charice makes for an enjoyable listen. The music alone conjures images of pink-purple soft focus cutscenes, wispy hair and longing glances — nice fit. My dream in life? Dead serious about this, now. Don’t laugh....

Game SERIES Debate to the Death! Mass Effect series

Just likethe previous debate, callingMass Effecta series after two games feels a little strange, but just likeGolden Sun,Mass Effectis a series where fans loved the sequel as much — or even more — than the original game. That ended up being the case in the last debate, so this week should be interesting to watch. The original game took an early lead, but the sequel slowly built momentum and eventually overcame the first game in votes:...

Gearbox wants you to play Aliens: Colonial Marines and Borderlands

If you live in or around the Texas area and have an interest in shooting stuff, then be aware that Gearbox Software is after focus testers for upcoming titlesBorderlandsandAliens: Colonial Marines. The developer needs gamers to head on over to their office in Plano to try out the ambitious co-op sci-fi shooter and the highly anticipated (at least by me) Xenomorph-themed FPS. If you’re over 18 and able to head to Plano during the hours of 10am and 6pm, you could help ensure that these two games don’t suck....

Ground control to Wii fans: Space Camp shipping in June

Activision’s Nintendo DS and Wii title,Space Camp, is hitting retail in June. Much to my dismay, I’ve learned thatSpace Campis not the videogame spiritual successor toSpace Jam. It does not have Michael Jordan, Marvin the Martian, Bill Murray, or the sport basketball. But it does have an astronaut of sorts — and I’m about two percent sure the Grammy Award winning film had that. So, okay,Space Campis about some crazy dude who wants to be an astronaut....
