There be pirates in Battlefield Heroes

The first addition in a “Summer of Heroes” campaign going on in Electronic Arts’ free-to-play shooter,Battlefield Heroes, swarthy sea-scallywags have been added as character sets. You’ll be able to field these buccaneers by spending your precious Battlefunds (the game currency bought with real cash) in the game Store. EA has said that there are seven million registered players on this game, but I can’t say that I know one of them....

This Week in the Community: The Miami and Baltimore NARPs were epic

Tubatic’s collection is probably one of the most impressive I’ve ever seen simply for the fact that he has all of his boxes still. The Ataris, Turbo Grafix, original Game Boy, Coleco Vision, everything has a box! I don’t know what it was about being a young gamer that made me want to throw all of my boxes away. Sure, they take up room, but everything is worth so much more just because of the boxes....

Tomb Raider: Underworld Thai temple trailer looks tasty

I’m pretty jazzed about this newTomb Raidertitle, set to be released on the 18th of November. Honestly, It’s been a long time since aTomb Raidergame has made it onto my Holiday list. Even with the downgrade to internet video, this Thai temple stage fromTomb Raider: Underworldlooks fantastic. It’s lush, green, Asian, and packed with a ton of ledges to hang off of. Lara can’t just walk to places, you know....

Ubisoft complains over Red Steel 2’s 81% Metacritic score

It’s a sad day when 81% isn’t considered a good review score.Red Steel 2has been getting some damn impressive reviews, not least in spite of how dire the original game was, but Ubisoft Paris isn’t satisfied. Despite getting great review scores over the 8/10 range, the game’s developer is slightly pleased, but is far from thrilled, with a score range is will only call “acceptable.” “Let’s start here: if you clicked that Metacritic link back there, you know that (as of this writing) our average rating is hanging out at a solid 81%,” says Jason Vandenberghe....

Ubisoft’s sex game for kids ‘absolutely’ not coming to US

Ubisoft has promised thatWe Dare— the raunchy party game fortwelve-year-olds— absolutely will not make it to the United States. In most cases, statements like that are considered bad news. In the case ofWe Dare, I think it’s the best news we’ll ever hear. Ubisoft seems ashamed of the game. It’s region-locked the creepy commercial and is refusing to talk to press about it. All it’s said is that the gamewon’tbe coming to the US, leaving us to speculate that it has been considered too raunchy for the puritans of America....

UK Professor Layton bundle looks ridiculously posh

My first reaction to this box set, without even taking a close look at the contents of the package, is that I want it. It’s black. It’s sexy. It has the words “Professor Layton” on it. Of course, I already own a black DSi, so I don’t need it, but my “Buy it!” radar goes off anyway. That’s the power of excellent packaging, I suppose. What you do get if you buy this UK-only bundle is a black DS and a copy ofProfessor Layton and the Curious Village....

Ultimate Game Chair plus Capcom = vibrator cleverly disguised as gaming chair!

I’m not much for gaming chairs, as I have a rather comfy sofa corner that seems to serve the purpose just fine without vibrating against my ass every time I find a health potion, but some people like that sort of thing, you know.Ultimate Game Chairhas decided to take it a step further, partnering with Capcom to release the Reactor Video Game chair. No one told them videogame is one word, I guess....

Whoops. Looks like Best Buy may have inadvertently rained on Sony’s announcement parade. AKotakutipster recently spotted a Best Buy pre-order box forInFamouswith a bold sticker proclaiming the existence ofUncharted 2: Among Thievesmultiplayer as well as the opportunity to get into its beta by pre-orderingInFamous. Valve to release first Portal 2 DLC this summer

I haven’t yet had the opportunity to dig into the cooperative mode inPortal 2yet, so I’m not absolutely aching to have additional opportunities to think with portals. Of course, I’m probably in the minority amongst people who would consider themselves interested in purchasing new levels there. Those folks will be happy to know that the wait probably won’t be too long. In an interview with Fast Company, Doug Lombardi has revealed that DLC will be coming toPortal 2this summer....

Video interview: Raven Software on X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I think it’s safe to say that everyone who’s had a chance to play Raven Software’sX-Men Origins: Wolverinehas been pleasantly surprised. Instead of a game that shamelessly ties itself to a movie license to deliver a watered down cash-in experience, it looks like it’s going to deliver solid, brutal action that truly does justice to Marvel’s character. Yesterday, Jim brought you ahands-on preview ofX-Men Origins: Wolverine, detailing everything from the game’s visceral combat to Wolverine’s epic battle with a Sentinel....

Want to meet an amazing gamer?

Ben Underwood just made my day. I’ve never seen anything quite like what he can do with a controller, much less the awesome stuff he can do outside of that. The next time you bitch about not being able to beat that score or win that match, I bet you’ll remember this guy. Apparently he’s mastered something called echolocation – the same thing that dolphins use to place their position within their surroundings....
