Podtoid 157: Muddy Buddies

This week’s Podtoid is, without a doubt, the weirdest Podtoid to have ever been recorded. In this latest offering of nonsense, you will be introduced to concepts involving Willem Dafoe that you’ll wish you’d never been exposed to. You’ll have to listen to the character assassination of a dying child. You will also, if you’re lucky, be able to pick out some videogame discussion. I don’t know if this is the best Podtoid I’ve ever recorded, or the worst....

Pour one out for Star Wars: Battlefront IV concept art

Two of my favorite things about videogames are, oddly enough, concept art and unreleased or cancelled games. I like thinking about how games get made, and it’s fascinating to sort through the ones that failed along the way. Actuallyplayingunreleased gems is secondary — they’re more interesting to think about and look at. To that end,Unseen64 has some concept artforStar Wars Battlefront IVwhich was, at one point, in development ChezCrytek UK(formerly Free Radical Design)....

The PlayStation 3 sales overcame those of the Xbox 360 week in Europe, according to the hardware sales numbers posted atCVG. It looks like the PS3 price cut was just enough to get European gamers to take the plunge. PSP version of Gravity Crash detailed and other goodies

Did we know there was a PlayStation Portable version of the download-only PS3 gameGravity Crashin the works? Well, we do now! No solid release date has been pinned down yet, but Just Add Water has let some basic details slip. Gravity Crashon PSP will have 35 levels, a level editor with share functionality, and an exclusive Survivor mode that hasn’t been revealed in full. When PlayStation Network titles are offered for both platforms, I tend to side with the PSP mostly because the poor thing doesn’t get much use in this household....

Rebellion: Aliens and Predators are still relevant

It’s been a fair few years sinceAliens vs. Predator: Reqiuem, and even longer since Aliens and Predators actually appeared ingoodmovies. Nevertheless, Rebellion and Sega feel that the sci-fi monsters are still relevant to today’s audience and will resonate with a younger crowd. “I think it’s still very much relevant to the younger audience,” says developer Tim Jones. “The comics and graphic novels still sell well, and the recent movies, theAvPandAvP2movies, have reached a wide audience in many respects....

Review: Joe Danger

Joe Dangerhas one goal that the entire game is designed around. That goal is fun. From the single-player, to the level creation to the multiplayer, every aspect of the game is designed around making sure that nothing gets between you and having fun. Imagine a game like that. OK, that isn’tthat hard, but I don’t bring upMario Galaxysimply to make a joke. The same idea that gaming should just be fun that is in theGalaxygames permeates throughoutJoe Danger....

Rule of Rose: First impressions

I have been looking forward to this game for a while, but nothing I had seen could really prepare me for the experience of playing it. Let me say right off the bat, that this game isnotfor everyone. It is definitely a niche market game, and if you are looking for non stop, in your face, let’s go kill everything in sight action, this is not the game for you. However, if you are like me and looking for something moody, cerebral and very bizarre, you’ll probably really like it....

Rumor(ish): Raystorm HD headed for XBLA

Joy! Continuing its recent surge inremakesand re-releases on the digital marketplace, it’s looking like Taito is set to bring its classic arcade shooterRaystormto XBLA. There are two screenshots bouncing around on theNeoGAF forums, and if they’re not real then somebody undertook one hell of a Photoshop project. I think it’s safe to say we can expect this on Live Arcade before long. From the looks of things, this is going to be another upscaling likeIkarugawas, using HD versions of the same models....
