This week is full of win!Street Fighter IV, Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned, andPrinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?are all on my must get list. I know a good majority of you are going to be playingStreet Fighter IVthis week and will no doubt be the main attraction for Friday Night Fights this week. Happy Fourth of July, Dtoiders! For this week of celebrating our nation, we get … one new game! Luckily it’sEarth Defense Force: Insect Armageddonfor the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. There’s alsoSuper Street Fighter IV: Arcade Editionfor the PC, but is there really anyone out there that’s into the fighting genre on PCs?
Oh that’s right, son! It’s time. It’s finally time (on Xbox Live, anyway). It’s time for Mahvel, baybee!!! Sure, it’s a ten-year-old game, but nothing else is really impressing me this week in the releases. Unless, of course, you’re looking for an updated fighting franchise withThe King of Fighters XII.Two big fighting franchises in one week — which one are you planning on getting? If not those two, then what’s looking sw33t to you all this week?...
The latestWolfensteinrelease didn’t sell well during its launch week. According to the latest NPD numbers, a mere 106,000 units were sold between August 25th and August 29th. The Xbox 360 version — which we reviewed — accounted for 59,000 of those units, while the PS3 version carried 30,000. In short, it didn’t beatMadden. That comparison is relevant, actually. In August, Raven Software designer Manveer Heiroffered to pay consumers for every copy ofWolfensteinif it beatMadden NFL 10in sales....
Alpha Protocolwas one of the worst games of 2010, in my humble opinion. Some people thoroughly disagree with that assessment, but even Obsidian has admitted that the game isn’t that great, and said it would do better if it could make a sequel. “I think there were things in the game we could have done better,” said CEO Feargus Urquhart. “We’ve talked about how the cover system wasn’t the best. Would it have been better with no cover system, so we could focus on other things instead?...
Android owners in the United States, great news:Fieldrunners HDwill be free the first day it launches on the Amazon Appstore. Wait, what? Wasn’t itsupposed to be available yesterday for 99 centson the Android market? Developer Subatomic’s original plans for the game were to release it on the Android Market, free of charge for the first day of release. When it realized that Google’s terms made it such that they couldn’t release a free app and later charge the full price of $2....
Realtime Worlds bristles at the words “persistentGrand Theft Auto” when the media discusses its MMOAPB. From what I understand, the studio believes the title does enough to distance itself. Social aspects and online play aside, though, I’m not sold on why GTA isn’t a solid point of comparison. APB is a persistent open-world action game where players can maim, steal or just plain ole’ run amuck inside a fictional city similar to New York....
Come November 17th, we’ll either be playingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2orAssassin’s Creed II. PC people won’t have much of a choice in the matter. According to Ubisoft, the PC version ofAssassin’s Creed IIhas been pushed back Q1 2010 with every other videogame on the planet. The delay is official. Ubisoft announced it via itsTwitter account, citing additional development in order “to deliver the best quality game” as the reason. Immediately afterwards, the publisher updated the account with information about what it was eating and just howmuchthey hate traffic....
On this slow New Year’s Eve, we only receivedonepress release. From PETA. The group wanted to spread the word about their named game for the most animal-friendly title of the year. It’sThe Sims 3. I’m just going to let this speak for itself: In the latest version of the biggest-selling gaming franchise ever, Electronic Arts allows players to choose a vegetarian lifestyle. According to game testers, vegetarian Sims, like their real-life counterparts, live longer, age more slowly, and feast on cruelty-free delights—from tofu dogs to ratatouille....

While not as nifty as last week’s PlayStation Network Update, this week does have a few goodies in store, including some horror, basketball, and a few upgrades. The most notable is probablyClive Barker’s Jericho. A click and 821mb later, and you’ll have access to the nightmarish FPS demo we’ve been waiting for. 2K Sports’NBA 2K8demo is also available for download today, letting ballers get a feel for the court before next week’s release....
A few weeks back, Jim showed you a fuzzy, “decoded” piece ofproduction artfor an as-of-then unannounced Wii game. Well, the game is unannounced no more. It’s calledGladiator A.D., and it looks so normal (by videogame standards), that it’s actually weird. At this point, the Wii has plenty of bloody, violent games, but most of them involve parody of the action/horror genre, or chainsaw hands, orlightsabers bought on Ebay, or other such unrealistic nonsense....
