Kudo: Kinect will ‘blow away iPad sales’

Wow, seriously? In a sales battle between two worthless things that nobody asked for, you may’t get more pointless than a war between the iPad and Kinect. Nevertheless, Microsoft’s corporate VP in charge of sunglasses, Kudo Tsunoda, has claimed that Kinect will annihilate the iPad when it launches. “The pre-orders have been really strong,” he boasts. “As far as what we’re looking at for Holiday, this is going to be stuff that’ll blow away any of the sales you’ve seen with iPad....

LA Demo botches spin job on gaming bill, Pat Brown is my new favorite person

GamePolitics, the only gaming blog read by Henry Kissinger, hasa storythat deftly illustrates the “ethical creativity” present in many of our elected officials. As a response to the ruling, Rep. Burrellwrote an op-ed piecein the Shreveport Times, lambasting The Times and the federal judge who made the ruling for (metaphorically) laughing at him, and punching his elderly mother in the jaw. He also saw fit to point out the mountain of evidence supporting his position via the time-honored method of citing the work of people much smarter than himself....

Master Chief leads a funeral for a friend

ASpanish forumhas posted an absolutely wonderful set of pictures depicting Master Chief eulogizing and mourning a lost friend at a funeral attended by a gathering of grief-stricken consoles. The friend in question is, of course, a failed Xbox 360 and the pictures are, of course, quite hilarious. Weep openly as Master Chief and an artist’s mannequin console each other over the loss of a deceased console, and share the sorrow as the Spartan hero reads out his final farewell....

McDonald’s blames fat kids on videogames

If you felt that today was lacking a few ironic laughs, you’ll be pleased to know that Steve Easterbrook, the chief executive for McDonald’s UK, hasrecently blamed videogames and TVfor child obesity. While he quasi-admitted that it might also have something to do with the slabs of greasy, processed cow anus in bread that his company sells, Easterbrook has hopped aboard the “blame everything on games” bandwagon to take off some of the heat:...

Mega Man III now available on mobile phones

Capcom continues pimping the Blue Bomber, withMega Man IIIreleasing for cell phones today. Calling it a “faithful translation,” the only real change is the addition of a savepoint feature that allows players to stop the game and pick it back up at a more convenient time. The game is available for Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T services. As if anyone needed reminding, this is the first game in the series to feature Rush and introduces Mega Man’s ability to slide....

Mega Man used to be able to crouch

…but he hurt his back, and now can only jump. Nah, I made that last part up. But Mega Man’s daddy, Keiji Inafune, said that he did have a crouch function in the first game. On crouching, Inafune revealed: I’ve often heard people say, ‘Mega Man can’t crouch,’ but we actually had a dot graphic of him crouching while we were working on 1. On the NES, with only a split second to see the slight height difference, the player wouldn’t really be able to differentiate between a projectile that could only be dodged by jumping, and one that could only be dodged by crouching....

So,Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walkeriscoming to the USon May 25. That’s pretty cool, right? To celebrate, let’s have some screens and artwork to get us in the mood. Subtle or not,Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walkeris probably going to awesome and I look forward to it eagerly....

Microsoft: We don’t undermine rival platforms

You might view Microsoft as a ruthless, vindictive, take-no-prisoners kind of company, willing to sink to all sorts of lows in order to take on its rivals. However, you would be an insensitive, judgmental cur if you were to conclude such horrid things. Microsoft’s the good guy, really! “We don’t make decisions about your game’s content,”explains Xbox Europe’s Ben Board, talking about how MS deals with third party developers. “We’ll give you reasoned advice, but what you do with it is up to you....

Monday Mind Teasers 7/30/07

You know how it works. With the help of each other, try to figure out all of the disguised video game covers. They all share a common theme that, once solved, can help you figure out the harder ones. This week’s theme will probably stand out quickly, but I threw in a couple teasers with a twist, so good luck! Don’t be afraid to shout out a few ideas and work together as a team to solve them all....

New footage and screens for Mario Party DS [Update]

I’ve lost track — Is this the ninth or tenth installment of this series now? Sure, there has been a lot of sequels to this game, but the DS one should help in revitalizing the series. From the looks of the trailer and screenshots, Mario and the gang have been shrunken down to little itty bitty versions of their former selves by Bowser. And instead of taking over the Mushroom Kingdom, he forces everyone to play their version ofMonopoly, more or less....
