Choosing the winner of ourThe Wheelmancontestwas difficult for a few reasons. For one, looking at pictures of you guys wearing tight t-shirts (some of you in underwear) may have scarred us for life. But most importantly, all of the entries were pretty amazing. We applaud the lack of shame when it comes to trying to win a videogame. It was tough, and we nearly considered canceling the contest and selling the games for cash towards our gym memberships, but… we had to act....

Don’t count on a PlayStation 3 port ofSplinter Cell Conviction. As Ubisoft tells it, Microsoft and Sam Fisher have a beautiful relationship built upon the solid foundations of a shared history. Fisher isn’t looking for love elsewhere: he’s getting all that he requires from the Xbox 360. (Also, it’s easier to develop for just one platform.) Unnamed developers recentlyanswered fan questions on the officialSplinter Cell Convictionmessage boards. Last week, Visceral Games asked us to come out to Electronic Art’s Redwood Shores offices to get an early look at their upcoming action title,Dante’s Inferno. I accepted for two reasons. One, because EA Redwood Shore’s campus has a killer game room, complete with a foosball table and anAlien 3: The Gunarcade cabinet. Two, because it’s our job to see games likeDante’s Inferno— set to hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year — well before their release, and then tell you about this thing....

Everyone’s saying that it’s ‘too late’ for gift buying. Nonsense! It’s never too late if you’re buying for yourself. If you are still gift buying for others, you had better head to the brick and mortar retailers, as shipping is pretty crazy right now. But if you’re buying for yourself, who cares if your packages arrive on December 26th? There’s some good crap at Amazon. The deal of the day is definitely the$100 in credit when you purchase a PS3....

Dear Sony, I have just remembered thatTomba!exists. If you don’t remember the game (and we could hardly blame you), it was a sidescrolling adventure starring a troll-like creature with pink hair and a hatred of evil pigs. Anyone who remembers playing it will remember that it was pretty damn awesome. It is not on PSN. This is unacceptable. Please rectify this issue, as copies of the original PlayStation game can sell from anywhere between thirty andeightydollars....

Maybe two-thirds of what we saw at E3 involved 3D technology. Hell, Sony even had us wearing 3D glasses at their press conference! There was 3D racing, 3D platforming, 3D shooting and even 3D portables with “3D” in the name. Following this year’s also 3D-heavy Consumer Electronics Show, it seems that the gaming world is getting the goofy glasses, like it or not. But do we like it? Based on what we saw, do we think we need it?...

Deus Ex: Human Revolutionwill feature “social boss fights,” where you have to ostensibly “win” a conversation. That is awesome. Deus Ex: Human Revolutionhas a tactical hacking game which opens up the more you augment, allowing you to break into newsstands or unleash bots on enemies. That is awesome. Deus Ex: Human Revolutionhas a new trailer out and it is awesome.

We have alreadyseen a trailerfor this a few months ago, but Kalypso has now officially announced the newest expansion forDisciples III, which is due out on PC in January 2012. The company has also released 12 new screenshots for you to take a gander at. Disciples IIIis a combination of a turn-based strategy game, and a tactical RPG. It’s made by Russian studio Akella, the guys who localize games likeMetro 2033andAssassin’s Creed: Brotherhood....

I’d like to thank Amazon for giving me the opportunity (read: excuse) to post that image. That’s not the only reason to praise the online retailer this week, however. They’ve slashed prices on over a dozen titles published by Atlus. There’s some quality stuff in their list going for as little as fifty percent of retail. Meanwhile, Best Buy is dropping a lot of Gift Card offers on both older and newer games....

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skiesis coming to the DS in about 10 days. Nintendo plans to celebrate its release with an event at the Nintendo World store in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza, which will be based around the social multiplayer aspect of Square Enix’s latest. If you haven’t heard, the game will let four players connect via local wireless to explore dungeons and take on bosses together. It’s like a pint-sized MMO....

Last weekend’sComic-Con Internationalin San Diego was home to the most exctingnew games, the most anticipatednew movies,the biggest announcements, and some of the moststar-studdedpanelsever. Of course Destructoid was there to brave the endless hordes of comic geeks and hairy XL Sailor Moon cosplayers to cover it all for you, ourloyal readers. It may be more likely than you think. According to Doug Lombardi, Valve considers the Wii to be a viable gaming platform, especially now that MotionPlus will be available. They’re also pretty interested in the iPhone, with Doug claiming that input is a new revolution. That, of course, means that they’re also intrigued by Natal, but we already knew they’re tight with Microsoft. Still, we may soon see Valve games popping up all over the place....

“Ron,” an engineer who’s part of the team behind Microsoft’s Kinect, showed off how the device works with some of the system’s various apps at Microsoft’s press conference. He began by simply waving to get Kinect alert and ready, then did another wave motion to open up a hub (shown above). By moving his hand around, his motions controlled an on-screen pointer shaped like, get this, a hand. It all looked pretty seamless, and more importantly, smart....
