Podtoid 121: Double Down Dragon

No Linde and no Samit for this episode, but we do have Topher, Jim, Brad, and Conrad. You will please to be enjoying it anyway. Listen to the podcasthere, as per usual. This week, the Podtoid crew discussed Brutal Legend and Tim Schafer’s subsequent “you’re doing it wrong” email, Modern Warfare 2’s crappy PC version, and Brad Nicholson’s desire to see a dragon ride on top of another dragon.

Podtoid 27: Fear of a new black edition!

Mixing metaphors? Much. Here’s Podtoid 27, for ya, coming straight from the underground bowels of Mount Destructoid. While everyone else is off playing in the California sun this week, I’m stuck here toiling over a hot mixing board to please you Podtoid fans, so I hope you all appreciate it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a pool party to plan and a handful of valium to hide in my skirt....

Professor Layton takes to the ice

This ought to brighten your day a bit. It’s Professor Layton, master mystery mister, cavorting around on an ice rink. Marvel as he twirls, spins and looks alternately quizzical and smug. I swear, is there nothing that man in the stovepipe can’t do? Next, we’re going to see him pulling 720° spins on a halfpipe somewhere. Or wrestling bears.

Resident Evil remake for Wii probably not leaving Japan

If you were looking forward to waggling your way through the originalResident Evil, I have some potentially bad news for you. According toa post on Capcom’s forums, the Wii remake of the classic game does not look like it will be venturing on to consoles outside of Japan. Chris Svensson, VP of Strategic Planning and Business Development at Capcom, made the post in response to a question as to the necessity that such a port even be made....

RetroforceGO! Episode 89: Punch-Out!!

Happy Fri … er, Wednesday, listeners! This week we recorded a bit early, so hopefully our yammering will help accellerate the arrival of your Friday. Or at the very least, make up for the lack of a Podtoid this week, which I can safely say you are better off without in this paticular instance. The horror … I can still taste it … Anyway, yes, highlights:

Rockman Diver Kai has Mega Man endlessly sinking

This new Japanese mobile game looks like an excellent little time waster/toilet game. InRockman Diver Kaiyou play as the ol’ Blue Bomber, who starts off the game by instantly falling into water. Your goal is to continue sinking (love his sinking pose!) without hitting any of the obstacles placed for you in the water. The longer you dive, the higher your score. It’s like that Paper Plane DSiWare game, but with cooler graphics and music....

Rumortoid: more proof of LittleBigPlanet for your PSP?

While news of aLittleBigPlanetfor PSPhas been floating around for a bit, there’s nothing like some solid quotes to get people revved up and believing. Take, for instance, this recent quote from EGM: “The LBP universe will also continue to evolve next year with the release of the PSP version: Q-Mann hears it’s fantastically ambitious and will further flesh out the PS3 LBP experience,” Kotakusays that Media Molecule is not involved in the port, which makes me more or less lose interest in it altogether....

Russians take Fallout LARPing seriously

Wow. Just… wow. That’s a picture of a group of LARP (Live Action Role Play) gamers in Russia. Polish gaming site Polygamia has ahuge galleryfeaturing this group of players from a LARP group called “Albion” playing in a fan-createdFalloutstory called “Nothing Personal.” The game session drew some 300 participants and is expected to continue for several months of sessions. From what I’ve been able to grasp using the limited skills in Polish that Google Translate is able to provide, the game they are playing takes place about twenty years before the events ofFallout 3and focus on the series’ west-coast roots in California....

Saints Row The Third: Smooth Criminal Edition is perfect

Saints Row The Thirdalready looks outrageously deranged. From theProfessor Genki pre-order bonusesto theability to adjust your genital areaon a whim, developer Volition seem to want to give new meaning to the phrase “no holds barred.” I expected many crazy collector’s editions for this game, but nothing prepared me for the majesty of the “Smooth Criminal Edition,”which EB Games Australia is claiming as an exclusive for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation....

Sega asks people what Sonic 4 info they want next

Sega may hate talking to various members of the gaming press, but it always has time for its community. The publisher is running a poll at the moment to determine which new shred ofSonic 4info it will bestow upon the public next, with fans able to vote whether they want to learn about the game’s Homing Attack or its music and sound effects. I know what I’d love more though — new screens....

Settle down, crazy people: Red 5’s MMO is still on

Red 5 Studios, which is probably more known for being home to a number of ex-Blizzard folks than anything else, is working on a mysterious MMO of some fashion. No, they aren’t ready to talk specifics yet, but they do want to reassure us the project is still very much on. Wait, why would it be canceled? This game makes use ofProject Offsettech, and if you’ll recall, Intel recently canned that title — for real this time, honest....

So, Square made an Aliens game for the NES

1UPhas blown the dust off an ancient artifact that once was lost to time — anAliensgame developed by Squaresoft for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Aliens, based on the movie sequel of the same name, was a fairly typical sidescrolling platformer. Ellen Ripley does her thing, shooting Xenomorphs, avoiding pitfalls, and eventually shooting the Alien Queen. Fairly straightforward stuff, really. Only more awesome, because it’s aboutAliens. The game was designed for the Japan-only Famicon Disc System, but it got as far as an MSX release before vanishing off the face of the Earth....
