id Software will releaseDoom Resurrectionon the iPhone AppStore next week,VentureBeatrevealed. Resurrectionis a new first-person shooterDoomtitle, developed by Escalation Studios with the help of id’s John Carmack, using assets fromDoom 3. The new story takes place alongside the events of the original 2004 first-person shooter, with a full eight levels and up to five hours of gameplay. Carmack totally hearts the iPhone, calling it a “real game platform, not a tiny little toy....

My favorite thing about growing up with a Nintendo 64 were all the different controller colors there were to choose from. Each member of my family got their favorite color and used it exclusively during our nightly rounds ofMario Kart 64. There was red for me, black for mom, green for the older sister, blue for the little sister, and my stepfather was content with the original gray. We even picked up a spare translucent green along the way for guests to use....

In case you weren’t aware, Uber Entertainment is running a system that allows them to essentially edit a text file to tweak certain values that impact how balanced — or not! —Monday Night Combatis. This sidesteps certification (an often lengthy process), which the company’s standard updates will have to go through. Uber hasmade its first changes, and here they are: A full update for bugs, exploits, etc. is being worked on right now....

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhoodis out next week, so I guess now is the perfect time for Ubisoft to tease another project related to the franchise. A short teaser video for something calledAsssasin’s Creed: Ascendancewas posted onUbiWorkshop’s website. Ubiworkshop is the arm of the publisher responsible for media outside of videogames, including short films and comic books. There’s not much to go on (outside of the fact that it looks cool), but it’s likelyAscendancewill be a short animated film that will flesh out the fiction of theAssassin’s Creeduniverse....

Aeria Games has a pretty good track record of releasing some quality MMO games that are free to play. They’re responsible for bringing out RPGs likeShin Megami Tensei: Imagine Onlineand the more recentEden Eternal, as well as a variety of others. They’ve recently teasedGolden Age, a persistent browser-based RTS in the works for the North and Latin American market. The backstory and setting for the game have been detailed. Based on historical events of medieval Europe, the game kicks off following the rumored conquests of Jacques de Molay — the last known Grand Master of the powerful Order of Knights Templar....

Welp, what a week this has been. Although E3 is over, our lovely boys and girls who were on-site are still working hard to give you their impressions of what they saw and played. No rest for the weary! Last week also meant I didn’t have a lot of time to play anything on iOS, or even keep up with any news on the mobile front for that matter. But late last weekend I was able to play two games that recently came out:Techno Kitten AdventureandIcebreaker Hockey....

After last week’s announcements from Nintendo, from where I’m standing, every Wii-related game release pales in comparison toPunch Out!!. Seriously … a new Punch Out!! games guys; it’s all I’ve been thinking about for five days. I’m trying to find someway to get excited about the WiiWare titleMidnight Bowling (Gameloft, 1-4 players, 800 Wii Points), but it’s tough. I’m sure the game’s career mode is as “immersive” as they say it is, but unless I’m playing a game of 8-ball with Von Kaiser, I’m skeptical....

If you thought it was going to end with funny tennis racket attachments or the Balance Board, think again Wii owners. InterAction Laboratories would love to introduce the Wii Sqweeze, an exercise peripheral designed to pump up those upper body muscles. At least, it possibly could. Thus far we only know that the device can interpret abduction and adduction movements. The unimportant details like pressure or validity must come later on in development....

The all-seeing eye of the internet happened to catch the above image ofMass Effect 3box art for the Xbox 360 from Electronic Arts’ online store. The image, which shows the Kinect Sensor compatibility bar found on all games with Microsoft’s motion control system as a feature, was quickly removed from its page, thoughthe original fileis still on their servers as of the time of this writing. We’ll no doubt hear all about this at E3 next week, but I’m curious to know how you think Kinect could be implemented inMass Effect....

Here at Destructoid, we love women, we love volleyball, and we love videogames. Now, Agetec will be bringing the perfect fusion of the three to the PlayStation 2 this August withWomen’s Volleyball Championship, and we couldn’t be more excited. The game is said to be “the most accurate representation” of the sport to ever grace consoles, which means I can now sell my Wii. With six venues and twelve teams to choose from,Women’s Volleyball Championshipshould keep volleyball fans entertained for minutes....

It was a bad week folks. I had to look high and low and still couldn’t find enough YTMNDs to fill up the quota for today. With that said, I have to say that I think I need some help again. I’ll admit, the only thing that makes my ears perk up when it comes to talk of Blizzard has to do withDiablo III, but I know there’s many aWorld of Warcraftfan hanging on their every word. It was recently reported that Blizzard filed three new trademark, each bearing the word “Cataclysm”. While at first fans speculated that this might be the title of one of thenew unannounced projects, it seems now more people think this could be a newWoWexpansion....
